Good food – need to wait for end to give receipt. The place is very colorful and the food is really good. The salsa is very good which is an indication of good food. The two flaws – I was in the middle of my meal when the waitress put the bill on the table. She did not ask if I was having desert or anything. This is tasteless as proper etiquette is to wait until the patron requests the bill. I was flabbergasted and offended. The second flaw, the receipt is not itemized and if you are traveling on business like I was, the company will not pay the expenses. I was not able to recommend the place to my colleagues for this reason.

Nothing objectionable, nothing exceptional. I ate at Zapata for the first time today. I met a friend there for lunch. The service is very friendly. Chips and salsa were put in front of me before I’d finished scooting my chair in. I looked over the menu while I waited for my friend to arrive. They serve typical Mexican fare. Lunch combination specials, a la carte items, Dinner combos and dinner entrees. I got Dinner Combo #4, two enchiladas, rice, and beans. There are 3 varieties of enchilada: beef, chicken and cheese. I selected one beef and one cheese. The food came out very quickly. My only complaint was the cheese enchilada had way too much cheese (words I never thought I’d say) and not enough sauce. I couldn’t finish it–it was just too cheesy. The beef enchilada was good. The rice and refried beans were rice and refried beans. Except for the cheese enchilada the food didn’t taste any better or worse than a hundred other Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. However the friendly service and low prices do set it apart from the rest of the herd. I ate cheaper here than I would have at Taco Bell and got a lot more food. I’ll probably be back the next time I’m hankering for some budget Mexican food.
Good food at great prices. This is the restaurant we always come back to when we’re in the mood for Mexican food. Perhaps it’s not the best in town, but the food is good, it’s very reasonably priced and the servers are very friendly. I usually go for the beef and shrimp fajitas; my wife likes the shrimp chiles rellenos. The chips and salsa always hit the spot. The margaritas are good and cheap. What is there not to like?
Mushroom burrito. The vegetarian mushroom burrito arrived quickly in a presentation reminiscent of the Mexican flag. The flour tortilla was fresh and tender and the mushroom filling was extremely tasty. No cheese, no fillers, just button mushrooms pan fried with few onions, green bell peppers and tomato for added flavor. I could not have created a better mushroom filling without using much more expensive ingredients. The Mexican rice was average and the salsa not to my taste. The regular salsa consisted of blended, canned tomatoes slightly enhanced with very little spices and few cilantro leaves. The hot salsa (in-house salsa picante) was watery with tiny brown pepper flakes that had a burnt taste. Again some cilantro some acidity but neither spicy nor flavorful.
So So food … Still have a smoking sec. (good or bad, it is up to you…) One BIG problem, for me. I ordered a Diet Coke they gave me a Pepsi. To many this would not be a big deal but to me and many others this is a lie that makes me wonder what else they will lie about?
One of Jefferson County’s best. My family and I LOVE Zapata’s. Their salsa is some of the best in the county and they have an excellent value lunch menu. Great prices for greater food.
