Cuppycakes. If you don’t like icing skip Gigi’s! It’s all about the swirl there. Love their cupcakes. Luckily last time I was in Alabama they had awesome Bama cupcakes!!!!! YAY My all time favorite is Lemon Dream Supreme. The new cheesecakes are great too
A Nauseating Amount of Frosting. I was so excited when Gigi’s opened…and I’ve been there many, many times in an attempt to find an excellent cupcake there…but to no avail. If you love a half cup of frosting on your cupcake, by all means, go to Gigi’s. I find the piled-high, film-on-the-roof-of-the-mouth-leaving buttercream they make to be pretty gross. They used to have a couple of types that were topped with their delicious chocolate ganache or less frosting, but most of those cupcakes have been reworked to have the piled high stuff. I can only surmise that most people go there for the frosting mountain…in my humble opinion, both the Publix and Kroger bakeries have superior frostings that don’t leave me feeling ill. What is even worse is that Gigi’s relies on the frosting–the cupcakes themselves have been subpar virtually every time I have gone there. They are unforgivably dry and crumbly. They do make a tasty riff on a Hostess cupcake which they call Mellow Creme, but that idea is very ’90s and a little unoriginal. I think another cupcakery could give Gigi’s a run for the money because almost everyone I know who goes there goes because the cupcakes are gorgeous–and they are beautiful. I need good taste and good looks in my cupcakes, however.

We love the different flavors and looks of each cupcake. Best Wishes we can’t wait to get back by your store on our next trip to Huntsville.
