3 stars. The food is usually very good. I love the cabbage, the macaroni and cheese is good and creative, and the caramel cake is to die for. The service, however, is SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW! Slow. Whew! I have been there 3 times, and each time they move at a snail’s pace getting plates together. I waited 30 minutes last time AFTER CALLING IN MY ORDER, 10 minutes before arriving! All 3 times they claimed they were short of staff due to employees not coming in. Not the place to go if you want to pick up a quick lunch on the go. But if you have time, it’s worth it.
How have we missed this place for so many years? Excellent food. We had the meatloaf and the ribs. The meatloaf was excellent. The ribs had a great flavor but could have been more tender. As for the sides… they automatically bring out rice with, which at first I thought was a mistake because they’d not brought out the scalloped potatoes that id ordered. I soon found that was because they had cooked them fresh. I also had the green beans and potatoes, which were quite tasty. Hubby had the pinto beans which were flavored with meat and quite good. He also ordered the black eyed peas which he felt were overcooked and mushy. For desert we shared a heaping portion of banana pudding which tasted just like what my mom used to make. It had just the right mix of bananas and villa wafers.
Delicious. The food is absolutely amazing, hands down the best Southern food I have ever had. Everything from the ribs to even the vegetables (who would have thought) is delicious. Plus the staff is sweet as can be! It is a MUST!
