I’m really disappointed with Smokey’s & this is the 3rd time they have let me down. The 1st time in there I asked for a combo plate, Ribs/Pulled Pork. I get a plate with a Small pile of Pulled Pork & 1 (one) rib. I complained & was told that’s how they do it. The 2nd time around I ordered a Catfish Plate that advertised 2 fillets. What I got was 2 striplets that when combined would equal one fillet. I’m from the home of America’s farm-raised catfish. I know what a fillet looks like. I asked what’s up with the striplets & I’m told they consider those fillets, not what’s advertised. The 3rd time on Sunday was the charm though. I order a Rib Plate, advertised as 6 bones. I ask the cashier if I would get 6 bones and he says yes. I get my plate & it 5 bones. I go back for my missing bone & get told you may get 6 bones, but it could be 4 bones, depending on how meaty THEY think the ribs look. Whaaaatttt?? There is no truth in advertising here & you get short-changed on every order except the sides. People are particular about their orders & if you advertise a certain amount of meat, then they should sell it that way. No wonder they have signs on the doors that say no weighing or measuring equipment and no photos of any kind. I’m really disappointed here. Come on Smokey’s!
I’ve been going to Smokey’s for years. Since they were in a small brick building on N. Parkway. I think it is the best around. Went there today. Had the half chicken plate and it was spot on. I could eat the white sauce on a piece of bark. The pork, ribs, and even the stew are all really good. Can really taste the smoke. Hence the name. Never had the catfish though. And the sides are good too. Baked beans, fried okra, and potato salad are my favs. The creamy slaw is good too. And the best cornbread in town! Made in an iron skillet! Family owned and operated. And they are great folks too! Don’t waste your time at that other place down the road… Smokey’s is where it’s at!!!
