Sorry Southern Cooking. I have not tried the German food at this establishment and now will not do so. Went there on a Sunday and was very disappointed in the buffet.. Limited selection. Greens tasted like liquid smoke was used for flavoring–awful taste. One visit was enough for me. Four adults in the party and nobody liked the food except two liked the cornbread (I did not because it was somewhat sweet). Definitely below average cooking in my opinion as well as my husband’s opinion.

BIG HINT–if you are going to close up your restaurant for summer vacation–PUT IT ON YOUR VOICE MAIL and save people driving out there and put the note about the vacation in the front to save having to walk all the way around the building to see that you are just closed for a week and not permanently shut down.

Easter and Mother’s Day buffet were extra special. My mom suggested this place. She had been a few times with friends and instead of cooking a giant meal on Easter she suggested we go there instead. Well, I had seen the bad reviews on here and so I didn’t have high hopes but Mom wanted to eat here. I was very impressed that the owner had done most of the work to restore the building herself. We arrived early and got a nice table that looked out over the gardens. There were two hot bars full of food, the salad bar and a very nice selection of desserts. They had ham, fried chicken, beef tips, green bean casserole, squash casserole, glazed carrots, cornbread dressing with homemade cranberry sauce… I tried a bit of everything and it was all delicious! I swear Renate must have used a crystal ball to look in on the holiday meals our family used to have – this is exactly the type of meal that we used to prepare before many of the family passed away, it tasted just as good AND we didn’t have to spend hours cooking and cleaning up.You have got to try the banana pudding – I have never had anything like it – heavenly!I am definitely say that I was pleasantly surprised. We liked it so much, we decided to come back for Mother’s Day. Again, everything was delicious, hot, fresh. I can’t think of any sit down restaurants that you order off the menu that has food anywhere near as good as Chef Renate makes. Oh, and the price is cheap. An all you can eat buffet that includes the drink for $12.95 on a holiday????? No way! You can expect to pay $15 to $25 per person at most places on holidays and you only get one plate. Both times everyone was STUFFED! They need wheelbarrows or something to carry people to their cars after lunch. I haven’t managed to make it for a weekday buffet but I hope to do so soon. However, if the weekday buffet is half as good as the holiday buffet then it will be far better than most places I have eaten.I saw a review that mentioned BBQ that just fell apart on the fork – I can’t wait to try that!A friend of mine that I see at the Auburn home games said that she has a food truck at Santuck and that the turkey legs and schnitzel sandwiches are mouth watering … I may just have to make a trip up to Santuck one weekend – haven’t been in ages. I think that I will have to also make a special trip to visit Mom one weekend and catch the regular Sunday lunch buffet … looking back at past events it seems like the next holiday is Thanksgiving and that is just too long to wait!I will gladly drive 1.5 hours to eat here!

German Buffet on Friday Night. I have been to the Plantation House for German Buffet at least 4 times, so far. It has been plentiful and tasty every time. The schnitzel was tender and I really dig the mushroom gravy that is available to pour over it. I loathe traditional Southern style banana pudding, but I admit that I do love Chef Renata’s banana mousse. The service is friendly and it seems that as soon as I finish a plate/bowl, it is whisked away quickly. The whole experience reminds me of my time in the USArmy while stationed in Bavaria. I recommend it… especially when hungry. I just wish I had room for more.
