The Real Cream in Ice Cream. After my Butch burger, I walked over for an ice cream cone. Located on the corner, a bright yellow building you cannot miss it. When you walk in it has the old style ice cream parlor that I remember as a kid. The staff and owner are very welcoming.
Milk shake heaven. Delicious doesn’t do it justice. This long cherished Mobile staple offers some of the best ice cream and milk shakes you’re ever going to be fortunate enough to sample. A couple of personal favorites are the vanilla with shredded cherries or the Butterfinger and Moose Track combo for milkshakes. Do yourself a flavor and stop by one of these. It’ll be one of the best decisions of any day.
Tradition. This place is a Mobile tradition! Still good ice cream every time I drop by.
Might need to try other items. I’ve lived in Mobile for 13 years and have always heard or read about Cammies but had never visited until yesterday. I was on a first date and we stopped here around 2pm for an after-brunch snack. I saw Pistachio on the menu, and being my favorite flavor, just had to get it. I chose it without actually looking at the bucket of ice cream. When I was handed my small cup I was immediately disappointed because of the horrid bright green color. Really? Real pistachio ice cream does not need coloring added to it, and this was the color of lime sherbet. And I couldn’t taste pistachio. Disappointing. I do want to go back to try other items though, as I would hope the quality of the pistachio wasn’t reflective of other offerings. The one thing I loved about this place was the old-timey ice cream shop feel.
Cammies Old Dutch Homemade Ice Cream. I stop by Cammie’s every chance I get, even in the winter, because I love their homemade ice cream concoctions and because they are the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
Just Can’t Get Enough. Best ice cream shop I have ever visited. The shakes are delicious and, if you dine in, you won’t be able to finish it as they give you a steel cup full of shake in addition to the traditional glass.Great place for kids. Mine especially enjoys the shoe/ball game. The staff is eager to help and it’s not unusual for Cammie to stop in and tell you about the new flavors she is dreaming up.
Good ice cream, sloppy service. Ive been coming here for decades, and its always been good. It’s still a good if not better than I remember as a child. But, in the past few years, the service has been slipping. Like I said, the ice cream has always been good, but the quality of the shakes, malts, sodas, splits, etc has diminished greatly.Today it hit a new low. We werent greeted by our server, she just asked what we wanted and left. The chocolate malt I had was poorly mixed(large globs of ice cream and many crystals of malt floating about), and was made with entirely too much chocolate. The chocolate shake my friend had was closer to a vanilla shake, again poorly mixed. Our server never returned after taking our order, she just sat at the bar on her phone(which seems to be the trend amongst all the employees, which all seem to be teens.) The guy that prepared our shakes also brought them to us. It’s sad to see that nobody that works at this Mobile institution nowadays seems to care about upholding the traditions.
