OMG!!! Not overrated at all! This place is a down home southern hole in the wall and it’s amazing. We’re finding the people of Mobile, Alabama to be some of the nicest we’ve ever encountered anywhere, and the folks here at Mary’s are no different. But the food!!!The fried chicken is the real deal. The fried pork chops are breaded the same as the chicken and delicious. The beef tips are like a rich and tender beef stew. We also had as sides greens, succotash, mac and cheese, mashed and gravy, and the best sweet potatoes we’ve ever had.We WILL be back!
Okay food, but not great. A co-worker and I ordered some plates for pickup after hearing from someone about the amazing food at Mary’s, and I’m always up for trying a soul/southern food joint. I think my problem was having high hopes after looking over their website before we called our order in. The food was not bad and I think sometimes I can be overly critical, but instant mashed potatoes are never a good thing. The fried chicken was a bit dry, but the taste made me think it had been brined. It also tasted like it had been seasoned too heavily with thyme. They should include black pepper in the name of the mac and cheese because after you’ve eaten a few bites, that’s all you can taste. I really wanted to try the lima beans and field peas but they were out of both. Maybe other items on their menu are better and worth trying, but I’ll stick to making my own soul food until the next joint opens up.

We had lunch here and my beef liver was the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned and very moist. Turnip greens and green beans were also delicious.Lots of food for the money, you won’t leave hungry. Cozy andcomfortable restaurant but not a lot of parking spaces though.Highly recommend and will return soon!
This is by far the best bbq I have ever had. We were driving through Alabama and decided to stop at a local restaurant for some food. The only thing better than the fried chicken at Mary’s is the service, as Mary and the waitresses made us feel right at home. I absolutely recommend coming here as it made my trip. My friends and I will be coming back very soon.

Good Home Southern Cooking. I like to support home grown Mom & Pa places. A lot of them or just average but this place is awesome. I was in town for about 1 1/2 weeks doing some on the job extra training & a coworker suggested this place for lunch. I was not disappointed. If you love Southern home cooking like momma or grandma use to make this is the place to go. I have one more day of training left & i will stop by this place one more time before i leave at home.
