Great little bbq joint, small little house, order and pay at the counter. Had the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious. Nice vinegar based sauce, which I prefer.
Ate here for the first time, ribs were big and meaty, had a good smoky flavor. Baked beans were really good. Didn’t care for the slaw though. It wasn’t bad, just okay. Will def be back though.
A Hidden BBQ Gem. One does not have to go far to find good BBQ in Mobile. Among all the chain o mania on Airport Blvd, is a narrow hidden rd, Old Shell Rd filled with local establishments. The Brick Pit is one of those, set back slightly, you park in back, since parking is limited in front. You know you are in a well seasoned BBQ place, just smell the smoker from the back parking lot. When you walk in, there is all kinds of writings on the wall, with arrows pointing to the order window. The menu is limited to pulled pork, ribs, and pulled chicken, with choice of sides of beans, cole slaw, and potatoes. I went with the pulled pork plate, beans and cole slaw. The choice of a sweet hot sauce was a winner, vinegar based, slightly sweet, and hot. The pork, was tender, with nice charring on the ends, wonderfully combination of fat and meat. You can’t forget the beverage of the South, Sweet Tea, like butter and honey, goes so well with BBQ.
Maybe they were having an off-day?. Having read lots of great reviews, we were excited to try the brick pit. We tried it quite a while ago, but the disappointment stuck with me. I’ve been to a couple other bbq places with similar decor, but didn’t have to look very closely before spotting some swear words at this one. So I’d say this is a kid friendly restaurant only if your kid can’t read yet. Not a problem, just an observation. I ordered a rib plate with potato salad and I think baked beans. Instead of the falling-off-the-bones goodness that I expected from the ribs, they were actually still rare next to the bone. The potatoes in the salad were undercooked in a thin unappetizing sauce – I think it was the first potato salad that ever got left uneaten on my plate. The beans were forgettable. I finished off my kid’s sandwich, which I believe was pulled pork, and it was delicious – I wish I had ordered that!Thinking back on it, I really should have let them know I was dissatisfied, but I hate to cause a fuss. They were very nice and the service was much better than the food. I should have given them a chance to remedy the problems. I’m not at all hard to please, but the amount of money that was spent on that disappointing meal was a shame.
Good Food. Meats are great sides are OK.
Bbq done right!. This is a place to come for the best bbq you’ve ever tasted! Although don’t judge this place by it’s looks.. you have to try the food. Some of the best you’ll ever eat I promise. Great friendly service with a smile.. go check it out!!
Best ribs in town!. Easily the best BarBQ ribs in Mobile. I drive right past ‘Dreamland’ to eat here. The side portions are adequate and very tasty, but the desert (banana pudding) was a bit overpriced. Overall, a GOOD dining experience!
