Lunch Favorites. We eat at Ala Thai East every time we’re in the Montgomery area. The Tom Kha soup is always fresh, flavorful, and delicious. It ranges in heat from mild to Thai hot, which will definitely get your attention without swamping out the flavors. The pad kee mao dish is delicious and the noodles taste homemade.
Great Lunch. We had a really good lunch. The Pud Thai Classic and Panang Curry were both great. The Roti bread was great for sopping up the curry.
Some of the best Thai food I’ve had! I always order carry out and have Chicken Pad Thai and baby egg rolls (one order of each is easily enough for two people).
Very unfriendly staff and below average food. Probably the worst Thai food I’ve ever had, and I eat at a lot of Thai restaurants.
Very good.. Located in a less than new stip mall, Ala Thai is easy to miss but worth looking for. This isn’t completely authentic Thai, the absence of lemongrass in any of the dishes is a red flag as are a few of the appetizer choices, but it is the most authentic we’ve found, so far, in the Montgomery area. This means the food is less sweet and more spicy than more Americanized Thai restaurants (i.e. Lek’s Railroad Thai, a Thai/sushi place, in downtown Montgomery). It has a good selection of Thai dishes – the Pad Khee Mao, Singapore Noodles, chive dumplings, and Prik Pao Noodles are standouts- and almost any can be made vegetarian. The service has always been excellent, having had the same server every visit. She was very friendly and readily answered any questions we had about the menu. The serving sizes tend to be more moderate, which I prefer, but depending on the dish I’ve still needed a to go box on several occasions. Dinner for 2 with shared appetizer, soft drinks, and 2 entrees runs about $30. Will definitely return frequently.
I judge all Thai restaurants by the quality of their Pad Thai. Sadly, I didn’t think their Pad Thai was great. It was dry, and more bland than I would like. But the egg rolls were delicious, and my friend really liked her dish. I may try it again… Their dining room is nicely decorated, and once inside, you forget that you are in a strip mall.
Correction. The address for this location is only open on weekdays during lunch, and has moved most of their business to the Ann Street location. Though Ann Street is in a typical strip mall, the inside remains quiet and interesting enough to rid itself of that feel. Thai classics are great, and their specialties are even better.
