Overpriced
Service was excellent. Food was very nicely prepared and presented. The fried oysters were excellent, the filet was covered in crab white wine reduction sauce, and the side was ample.
Food was good, but didn’t match the price. You end up paying for the atmosphere, as opposed to the food or service.
Charged $37.50 for the nightly special of Grouper with crab in white wine and butter sauce topping. Did not ask the price for special. Was stunned when the bill arrived. It was a total RIP OFF at $37.50. I told was told their policy is tell customers the special price only if they ask.
Superb. Superb appetizer, dinner, dessert and cocktails. The service is outstanding!!
Treewatcher–I sure hate the things that the other reviewer said! I live nearby and find that all ages alike enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant. When there, I see everyone from the up and coming trendy crowd looking around to see who they know there to the average person like me (mid 30’s) to the retired person enjoying life and a quality dining experience to the person in between. I’ve never seen anyone there falling asleep and I certainly think the trout almondine and other dishes are above average. I also think it’s great that it is near lodging, whereas you’ll often only find a chain-restaurant in those areas. As a local, I hope that reviewer is NOT a local, because his attitude is not typical of a Southern Montgomery resident. Charles Anthony’s Restaurant is the perfect choice for a fine meal in a great, pretty, and quality atmosphere.
Old Timers Chime In. We are a couple of the old people who like this restaurant. We don’t fall asleep at the table, so they’re happy to feed us. It’s a symbiotic relationship. We may see this restaurant with a different perspective from the locals — particularly the person who commented about all the old people. Having worked for 91 years between us, we have the time and the means to travel. Plus, we have most of our original teeth. To find a hotel complex with something other than the standard restaurant complex nearby is a treat. That’s why we ate here this evening — our fourth visit. I had cobia — not on the regular menu. It was blackened and nicely seasoned. The salad was fresh and good. Nothing was heavy or overdone. Service was swift and atmosphere was fine. We’ll continue to stay here and eat at this restaurant. Sounds like the ageists will avoid the place so I guess we won’t offend anyone by our presence.
