Just Like GrandmasIf you want authentic Southern cooking this is the place. We ordered two adult and two kids plates each with a meat, two sides and bread. We also got two pieces of cake. For the meats we got the breaded fried pork chop, fried chicken and chicken tenders. For the sides we got Mac n cheese, broccoli and cheese, mash potatoes, cheesy new potatoes, and corn on the cob. For the bread we got dinner rolls and corn bread. Everything was good. The Mac n cheese, broccoli and New potatoes stand out among the sides and both the pork chop and fried chicken were excellent. Between the Oreo and red velvet cheese cake the red velvet was by far the best although both are good. I cant say there is anything I saw on their menu that is unique it is just solid southern food. Our bill after adding drinks came to $45. For someone who grew up in the south I can say this is authentic southern comfort food that tastes like it came out of your grandmas kitchen.
Filet and Vine appeared on several foodie lists, so we decided to give it a try on a recent road trip. We went at an off time, around 4 pm, which may explain why the food was warm, not hot. I had the veggie selection which consisted of Mac and Cheese that was the highlight of the meal. This was some of the best Mac and Cheese I have had. The vegetable medley and sweet potato souffl were also delicious. The breading on the fried green tomatoes had too much/thick breading, and the corn muffin was dry. Hubby had a fried pork chop which would have been a lot better if it was not heat lamp warm. I am sure during prime time this place would rate higher.
Outstanding home cooking, conveniently located near downtown Montgomery. What more can I say about this restraint, other than its great. There will be a lunch crowd, but I promise it will be worth it.
