When I called ahead for my party of 12, the restaurant told me that they don’t do call ahead seating, that it was first come, first serve and that they were very busy. They were quite rude on the phone, but I said, ok, I’ll come right away. When I arrived, I noticed that they were not busy at all, contrary to what they told me, and that they had at least half of their dining room open. I asked for a table for 12, told them that my party was on its way (with kids, which is why I wanted to make sure we had a table before they arrived), but they would not seat me until my whole party arrived. I wish they had not told me they were busy, which was false, and I wish they had not been so rude. I also wish they had explained in my initial phone call that they don’t seat people ahead of their parties so I wouldn’t have wasted a trip driving to reserve a space for my party. I drove down the road to Tipico de Mexico and they seated me right away and were extremely good to us. I won’t be back to Ixtapa.
Good food. Great veg selections…best I’ve ever had actually. Mom had to take half her lunch with her (we are on the way home from the beach). If I lived here this would be a regular place to eat. The only negative was the apathetic service…dude couldn’t wait to get rid of us! We saw him three times…taking our order, bringing our food and bringing the check (okay four…he brought the receipt back). Forget about asking for a drink refill or anything else.
Game changer to a favorite restaurant. Ixtapa has now implemented a 2 (small) bowls of salsa, per table, policy… according to our waiter, Leo. They will supposedly be charging for each bowl of salsa, over 2, per table. I didn’t see it written on the menu… but me, and the four friends of mine who they crammed into a booth, sure found out about it, from the waiter. I guess my 3+ day a week Ixtapa habit will be coming to a close. I will be taking my friends and my $9+ margarita drinking self to Cuco’s from now on. They START with a bowl of salsa per person… and never complain about giving you more. Sad… I really loved Ixtapa’s chicken… but you will not be rude to me and my friends, have irrational rules, and keep my business. This really saddens me. I love Ixtapa so much that I overlooked a horrible incident at the Atlanta Hwy… because I love it so much. Anyway… screw me once… shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me. Ixtapa consistantly serves me delicious chicken tacos…for about $6 I can have more lunch than I should eat, and it’s so yummy that I can’t stop eating them (even when full). If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, Ixtapa offers the best top shelf margarita in town. It’s sweet, refreshing, and effective.
YUMMM!!!. We have only been to the Ixtapa on Atlanta Hwy not sure how the other one is… I am not a big mexican food fan… never have been .. But I have been to this restaurant .. I always say I am going to try something different but I never do… cuz I can’t stop craving their chicken chimichanga with the melted queso YUMMY!!! Our service has always been so wonderful from the time we arrived to the time we leave. I am sad that we had to move from Montgomery to south Texas … Was thinking we would get to experience great Mexican food here.. We are MISSING Ixtapa!! All the mexican food here pales compared to what we had there!! Even the queso dip is wonderful and now can’t bring myself to eating anything else that came from a can. THANK YOU IXTAPA WE MISS YOU!!!
Just okay. Wanted to try a new place for Mexican last night, so my husband I went to Ixtapa. After waiting 10 minutes (busy night) we were seated. The srvice was average at best, had to wait on everything and ask for some items more than once to receive them. I had the quesildea supreme which was of average fair for Montgomery, my husband had tamales with chili con carne. Again, average on the tamale, the chili con carne was so spicy it could take the varnish off wood. We like spicy food, but it was beyond the point of tasting good, it was too the point it would melt your gums. I told the waiter once, he ignored me, I told him again, he looked at me like I was stupid and said yea, sometimes the jalepnos are hot, I told him to remove the seeds. The chips and salsa are good, but I don’t think we will be going back, with the bad service and average food, there are much better places in Montgomery for Mexican food.
Service was good. I had a lunch special with beans and rice. The beans and rice were just lukewarm and it was pretty bland as well.
SO SAD!!. I was shopping and saw the full parking lot so I decided to give it a try, since I am on the never ending quest to find better Tex-Mex than I can get in Auburn. So sad to come to the realization that ALL Tex-Mex may be the same in the entire state. I had the Chili Relleno/ Taco combo, same blandness that I have came to loath! The typical covered in orange?? enchilada sauce, stuffed with white velveeta cheese and the worst quality ground beef (Taco Bell meat), yellow rice, store bought taco shells, canned bean sadness that can be found everywhere…..
