Our Red Hat ladies ate lunch here today. The food was awesome especially the fried chicken, which they are known for. I had the turnip greens, macaroni & cheese (so creamy & rich) and cucumber salad plus corn muffins. So delicious every bite. But the desert was definitely fabulous, homemade butterscotch pie with at least two inches of meringue!! Really!!This piece of pie was so big, I had to split it with my friend who quickly agreed it was more than fabulous too. Most of the ladies ordered coconut pie and lemon meringue pie and split theirs too!! We left stuffed to the gills with to go boxes for our leftover chicken. Our waitress was great also and kept our glasses full. Can’t wait to go back with my husband to try out more of the menu!! Do get there early as the place gets crowded!

Super Fried Chicken. Martins has been a Montgomery meat & 3 restaurant serving folks for many years. And its easy to see why. Its all about the food. The restaurant is located in an unpromising strip center. Inside are a bunch of tables covered in plastic, checked tablecloths. Service is perfunctory. So the food better be good! The best deal is the meat & 3 (a meat and three side dishes) or a veg plate of 4 sides. I had the fried chicken which was marvelous. The batter was the perfect mix of spices finishing with a great salty tang. Inside, the meat was amazingly tender. Wow!The sides were a mix of hits and misses. The greens and mashed potatoes were very good, pickled beets and green beans were fine, and the cheese grits were tasteless. Oh, well. Everything cant be great. The biscuits and cornbread were really good.I would return any time for some more of that great fried chicken.

No complaints, just a very full stomach. I had read about this restaurant on this block and as we were coming back from Florida, it was lunch time. The restaurant was well attended, but we were seated very promptly. The three of us ordered the chicken dinners, three pieces of chicken (or two breasts), three sides and fresh baked cornbread. With iced tea, the dinners come to $10.99 + tax. The cornbread was still warm and a little bit crusty. The mashed potatoes with gravy was the real thing, so were the green beans and the coleslaw. The chicken was a story all of its own. Fried crisp and seasoned to perfection, it arrived soon after we ordered and was still steaming. The portions were very generous and we ended up with enough leftover to have an additional meal for the three of us later on that evening. A very pleasant experience.

Layout of the building, food so so today. While I have been dinning at Martian’s periodly for years, today was another expirence I should share. Our waitress told us after waiting for 30 mins that our order had 30 orders ahead of it. My Chief beef, ( pun intended) is the entrance to the restaurant. Today I had the bad luck to sit right in front of the cash register closest table to the door. While I am pleased they have no shortage of folks arriving and leaving in a steady stream, I am displeased with the door not having an entrance with a wind break (2 sets of doors) Add to that the wait for food, not their best, I just have to say, now I know why I waited so long to return. The air was quite cold blowing on me, from the door with every use.I even suggested that we get our order to go, as it was so packed in there , no place to move to was an option. Normally I am concerned for my elderly Mother iin-Law, today I brought her jacket, I had on a 3/4 length sleeve winter blouse, but it was not possiable given our seating and door construction.`Also the fan was on above us, I requested it to turned off, but not sure if it ever was!

Indescribable!!! Don’t let the appearance deter you, the food and service are that of impeccable standard. Brenda, our waitress and my new best friend gave us star treatment when she learned we were from out of town. The fried chicken, greens, cornbread, biscuits, sweet potato casserole, short ribs, red beans and rice, mashed potatoes, pineapple cheese casserole and lemon meringue pie were ALL EXCEPTIONAL! How do I know this? Not because I was greedy and ordered it all but because Ms. Brenda wanted us to have snacks for the road. I’m in love with this place and am strongly considering them for a wedding caterer! And we paid about $22. Seriously. GO. You won’t be disappointed

Terrible service. I ordered dark meat chicken and three sides. My waitress brought me a plate of white meat and only two sides and informed me all they had was wings, and they were out of one of my sides, hope that’s okay, along with a check with the full price of my meal (dark meat and three sides). I basically just paid 12 dollars for food I didn’t want. Do not plan to go back.
