As we pulled up I got the feel that I was in for a treat. This place looks like a BBQ place is supposed to look. Lots of cars in front of an old sorta run down building with smoke pouring out of a smokestack and the smell of deep wood smoke all around. The young lady at the front counter had that typical southern charm that one would expect. The folks in the back were working hard to turn the orders. However once again Alabama BBQ let me down by saucing the meat. The beans were good and rich with a very unique flavor. I dug out a piece of unsliced pork. It was juicy and flavorful. Decent smoke and smoke ring. However as I got further into the pork it was a little on the dry side. The fries were fries. The sauce had a good tang to it. Maybe a little more than I like. The sausage was nothing special. The portions were nothing to write home about especially for the price. All in all this place was just a disappointing as the rest of the BBQ places in Montgomery.
A bad day today at sams. Cold meat, cold fries. . .but place was packed. I don’t know why. . .
This bbq restaurant definitely made it on my list as top places to avoid… BBQ was less than average, meat portions were ridiculously small, with a full plate of previosly cheap frozen fries and baked beans. How this restaurant has been in business for over 30 years is a complete mystery to me.
It was just okay. It seemed like the beans and slaw were store bought and the fries were purchased frozen. The sauce was bland. The sausage that someone else at my table was room temp. The staff was friendly.
I’ll Be Back!. Just visited Sam’s after they did so good in a state contest. Wanted to see what the fuss was all about. Now, I know! The barbecue was delicious. No fatty pieces you have to covertly pull out of your mouth. The beans were to die for with lots of meat in them. My order came with slaw, which I don’t like and they said they would be glad to give me extra other sides at no additional cost. The employees were really nice and appeared to really value me as a customer. I’ll definitely be back and will recommend to my friends.
Used to be great. This was my favorite BBQ joint when I moved to town 10 years ago. Great food and service. Now, the food and service both leave a lot to be desired. On our last visit, the meat was cold and beans looked like they were 2 days old. The girl fixing the plates in the back looked highly annoyed any time the cashier called out a new order to her.
GREAT REAL PIT BBQ!. Love this place. Wish I would have learned of it sooner. The atmosphere is unique to say the least but exactly what is expected of great barbecue place. Great Atmosphere, Great customer service, and Fantastic BBQ. It’s refreshing to go to a restaurant where you feel valued as a customer.
