This place has closed with no announced plans to reopen. It was a anticipated by many with a stale menu in a town know for outstanding food and service. So much for the effort.
Try to be seated outside, if you can. I was visiting Birmingham recently on business and a group from work visited Avo on a Monday night. While some of the food that I tasted was good (there’s a poutine on one of the menus, either that of Avo or Dram downstairs, which was fantastic), our server was erratic and the indoor dining room was incredibly, incredibly loud. Only half of our table had the chance to order appetizers – our server forgot to take orders from the other side of the table altogether. I ordered the steak frites ($30) cooked medium rare, and it came out overcooked and tough. Friends ordered burgers from the Dram menu – you can order from either menu in both restaurants – and they left me with food envy. All in all, I’d recommend asking to be seated outside. With a lower volume level and less of a frantic feel, I’d imagine that our entire experience would have gone better. At least I hope that it would have!
