Consistent. I love consistency and Jim’s is consistently very good. It is Saturday and my wife will settle for no other pancakes than those from Jim’s. Usually I am a turkey and dressing fan, but occationally go for a cheeseburger with great fresh cut french fries and home made chocolate pie. If my wife doesn’t ‘t want to cook supper, I will bring home either the fried shrimp or hamburger steak with onions and gravy…better than flowers!
Best Cheese Burger. Jim’s is known for it’s meat and three, but I love their sandwiches. The cheese burger is out of this world. Also the club sandwich, chef salad and fresh french fries. Oh and you have to try the fresh cut and fried onion rings….yummmmm

It may not be the cleanest joint but the food is good comfort food. You won’t be impressed with the decor but the staff is most of the time very friendly with quick service. You get a decent portion for the price especially with their daily specials.
First and Only Time. I’d never heard of the place (I hear it’s on a list of places you should go) but it was on the way into town. I’d just moved to the area and we tend to like little mom and pop places, you find the best gems where the visitors don’t see em…:)Anyway, I was less than impressed. My wife got fried chicken, which was ok, but rather bland. The corn looked and tasted like it came straight from a can. The greens were pretty tasteless and the fried okra had a weird consistency that was mushy underneath the fried breading (wonder if it was frozen). The one good thing I had was on my own plate, fried livers, they came out pretty decent.
Yikes. This is on alabama’s 100 places to eat before you die, but I have no clue why. Tried it twice. On our second visit the waitress warned two in our party not to get what they were ordering. What they opted for instead didn’t impress, nor did the rest of our dishes.
Bottom Line…Lousy. I hate bashing a local food icon, but the quality of my Jim’s experience leaves me with no choice. I’m not big on atmosphere as long as the food is good and the place is clean. Overall, the inside was decent and it gave me the feeling the last time this place saw paint and some decorations was about 1976. Somewhat like a visit to the grandparents, which immediately set my taste buds on edge. Service was decent. Not a warm and honest welcome you would expect from a local place. I did pick up a little frustration that a customer would choose to eat about an hour from closing, but again it’s easily overlooked when rewarded with good food. I can sum up the food in one word-terrible. I waited 20 minutes expecting piping hot and fresh fried chicken (the house classic). What I got was a plate of cold and tasteless everything. The only thing noticeably warm was the potato salad! The dark meat was dry and lacking any discernible flavors. The corn was shriveled and looked waterlogged. Don’t even get me started on the stewed tomatoes, which probably tumbled out of a can. The greens were OK, but again cold and tasted like they sat around all day. My biggest disappointment (besides the chicken)–the corn bread. If you can get past the mealy, dry taste, the lack of anything resembling corn in flavor will convince you this isn’t anything that should have corn in the name. Bottom line….lousy food. I walked out paying a $25 bill for two and dropped another $20 at a chain fried chicken joint to satisfy the wife’s craving for fried chicken. Should you chance a visit to Jim’s don’t say I didn’t warn you.
