Went by Bamboo on 2nd Ave N a few days ago. The atmosphere is definitely something different for Birmingham. It was very crowded so I sat at the bar. The lighting around the bar kind bugged me. I wish I had a private table to sooth the vibe. The bar tender that served me wasn’t really friendly but he wasn’t rude either. He was just kind of there. Grilled edamame app was pretty good. The bartender did give me some recommendations on sushi rolls so I will with the Magic City Roll and the Double Shrimp Roll. Both were very good. The Magic City Roll was my favorite. Spicy and delicious. The owner came by to say hello and was very friendly. Made me fell more welcome than the bartender. Overall it was a good experience. I will go back. If you are looking for fresh sushi or just looking for a cool trendy spot to hang out the Go For It!
Best ramen in Birmingham….hands down! Service was amazing as well. Absolutely a place you should try on the Birmingham restaurant scene! It’s worth wait!
The atmosphere was nice and the food was good. I wasn’t blown away, but each dish was consistently yummy and well balanced. The place was popping for a Thursday night. Every table was seated, and the bar was full. The broth for the momos was very nice. It had a surprising citrus taste, and the acidity balanced well with the filling of the momos. The Unagi was good, but I would have like a bit more unagi considering the amount of sticky rice in the bowl.
This restaurant is always crowded, and the wait during the weekends is very long. I would suggest going on a weekday. I wouldn’t say that the sushi is the best in Birmingham, but it is good. There are a lot of options on the menu which is definitely a plus. I would suggest trying the Momos – they are dumplings served in a flavorful tomato vinaigrette.
Went last night (Thursday) and arrived to a nearly empty restaurant around 5:15, but by 5:30 it was getting crowded and at 5:45 it was packed! The service and food were great. We had two sushi rolls – Fire Roll (our fave) and the Wham Bam Birmingham. We also sampled the Thupka bowl with chicken, Momos dumplings and egg rolls. Everything was delicious and came with sauces that were perfectly complimentary. We will definitely be back and are excited to have an upscale Asian restaurant in the area!
I went on a Tuesday. I stopped in at El Barrio to check the specials. 5 dollar Margaritas and a special on tacos. I ordered 2 15 dollar drinks. I appetizer, a dinner salad and a roll. 67 dollars later. Was it good? Kinda…Will I go again? No…Too expensive…That’s all folks!!
Best sushi I’ve had in Birmingham. It’s mostly specialty rolls, so you won’t find any nigiri here, but the rolls they have are very good. I recommend the Blazer and the Sexy Lady. Also ordered the Ramen Bowl with pork belly – very tasty. My wife had a delicious cocktail and I got a draft Sapporo. All in all a good experience, just don’t come in expecting cheap Chinese food prices.
