So I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately we didn’t. We had the ribs and the big daddy nachos. The nacho topping were good but didn’t have nearly enough chips and the chips should be corn chips not potato chips. I know everyone raves about the sauce and it was ok but not anything to rave about to me. The ribs were fatty and chewy. Afterwards both my wife and I had a very heavy feeling in our stomach. Won’t be going back more or less scheduling our trip around.
The dream is gone. The meal tasted like it was cooked yesterday. Considering the volume this place does there is no reason to have old food. The rib tip sauce was so sweet it was inedible. BBQ chips tasted like they came fresh from the bag.
If you like a spicier bbq sauce then this place is for you! LOVE their BBQ chicken! Potato Salad is always the side I go with. It’s most definitely a staple here in Birmingham.! Enjoy!
Terrible customer service. While it smells good from outside the restaurant, the customer service is the pits. I called four days in advance of Father’s Day to make a reservation – the hostess on the phone made an exception to their typical reservation policy since we had a large group and got us all set up. When we showed up with my out of town extended family and 87 year old grandparents, they hostess and the manager claimed no idea of what I was talking about and brusquely shooed us away to the back of an hour long waiting line. No handicap parking either, if that matters for your group. Their inconsistency tanked Fathers Day lunch for all the guys in my family.
Hell, I would rather go to Full Moon. Good barbecue is all about how well the meat is cooked–not about the sauce. Go ahead and try Dreamland ribs with sauce on the side sometime or without the sauce and tell me it’s the best you ever had. I bet you can’t do it. The fact of the matter is this place is hit or miss on meat quality but always comes through on sauce quality (I’ve been there 4 times). The sauce keeps people coming back and has earned this place a national reputation, but put Dreamland up against Coopers BBQ in Llano, TX, Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart, TX, or Arthur Bryant’s in Kansas City and it will look like a chump every time.
Good BBQ!. Most people I know consider Saws to be the best for BBQ. That may be true overall. However, when we are talking ribs I feel like Dreamland is a little better. Dreamlands sauce is what does it. Even Saw’s fans agree on that part. The meat is average but that sauce…The atmosphere is friendly and the service is always decent. The pricing is legit as well. The menu isn’t very large though.
