One of the oldest and best places to get a hot dog in the city of Birmingham. The place reminds me of Pete’s famous, one of my all time favorites that is long gone. They have chips, sodas, breakfast and burgers. And of course great hot dogs.
Gus’s was great. Had the awesome feel of a downtown, hole-in-the-wall hot dog place. The chili dog was good but greasy. It was greasy in just the right way. They have orangina as well, which is a plus because my daughter loves that drink. The staff were very friendly. Always smiling.
My mom has raved about and ate here for years. I’ve tried the chili dog and found it to be pretty good but greasy. The regular dog was good too, but the sauce was kinda tangy to me. Yesterday, after my mom decided she needed a hot dog fix from Gus’, I decided to try the special dog all the way (mustard, onions, seasoned meat, kraut and sauce) and let me tell you- it’s the best hot dog ever! It’s the perfect recipe and the tangy sauce and the seasoned beef form a delicious combination. Typing this right now is making me hungry, lol!
