The food is good, but I think they made a few sacrifices to the dishes for the sake of presentation. The decore seems a little confused between modern and retro but I’m assuming they were trying to model it after their menu items (modern twists on familiar dishes). The southwestern corn chowder was delicious. Sweet, spicy, creamy, but unfortunately small. Their twist on the typical tater tot was pretty good. The only problem is they sacrificed providing enough of the smokey ketchup for presentation so you ended up eating a decent amount of just plain fried potato (small smear of ketchup under each tot about the size of a golf ball). I ordered the fried chicken with cheddar waffles and balsamic vinegar spiked syrup. This is a massive dish. They serve an entire half of a fried chicken. The meat was very juicy and spiced well. The biggest problem was that the chicken is extremely difficult to eat with the waffle and the meat to waffle to syrup ratio is a bit off (way too much meat, and way too little syrup). I advise setting aside time to separate your meat from the bone before digging in. Expect leftovers if you’re ordering this one.I’d probably visit again though to try a few other menu items. This place has potential to be great. It just needs a little work on the proportions of the components of each dish.

Pretty food with no flavor and even worse management and service. I had been advised by a buddy that I should try this place. We got there and it was all but empty, My friend had ate there before and he liked it. I was very surprised when the server was unable to come back and refill my drink or check on our need of anything. When he did come back it was twice to tell us our order would be up next after several others had food and were about to leave that had came in after we got in the restaurant. The after an hour the meatloaf was very very bland and the mashed taters were very pasty..I will not be going back.

Happy Hour. John’s has an incredible happy hour for a quick bite and drinks. All beer, even local high abv, is $3. All small plates are half off. We had the Mac n Cheese and the Oysters Rock-a-fella. The former was very good (would order again). The oysters are obviously not meant to be traditional rockefeller and are also very tasty. Definitely worth a try, although even splitting with another person, I found myself growing a bit tired of it. Order for 3+ people. Will be back for John’s happy hour again.

It was awesome! Great food, awesome service, and delicious locally brewed beers. I highly recommend the pork chop and the dark chocolate bread pudding. Will definitely be returning.

The only thing upscale about this place is the price. Very expensive chicken and waffle with crispy black burnt chicken. I almost asked for another plate until I realized every plate coming out of the kitchen was just as burnt. The waffle was actually good, but the chicken is horrid. Regular diner with added linen napkins. Nowhere close to worth $18 for burnt chicken and waffle dish.
