Old Salads. I usually frequent Newk’s in between classes, ordering a to go salad and some soup. This Newk’s however, constantly gives out old salads. Every time I have made an order to go they have given me a salad that seems to be left over from the day before– soggy, brown lettuce… Disgusting! After the 4th time of this happening I can ensure that I will not be back, and will be warning my friends about spending $8 for old food.
First Time Customer. I have worked in executive management for a restaurant chain, and I was very pleased with my first visit to Newk’s. I had a soup and salad. The soup portion was large, well flavored, and the presentation was appealing. The salad was of good quality. The lettuce was almost exclusively large and pine-tree-green colored, either very well sorted or a high quality of lettuce purchased. The dressing (there was a lot but I personally prefer quite a bit of dressing) was well flavored and not cheap. Newk’s provides a small included condiment bar so I could get as much cheese and croutons as I wanted. The price of my ticket was $9.05 after 10% Birmingham sales tax. I got water with my bowl of soup and half salad. The restaurant was acceptably clean. I did not visit the facilities, thus I cannot comment on them. It was well staffed for the time of day and restaurant size, and the food was delivered in a prompt manner. The employees were friendly enough. No one was rude and my order was processed professionally. Overall I was very pleased. This will definitely become of my regular lunch spots.
Rude manager. We are huge fans of Newks and spend hundreds of dollars each month dining in and purchasing their caesar dressing and soups to eat at home between our visits.Last night we stopped at this Newk’s on our way home from TN.We noticed the Caesar dressing tasted very funny so I went to the front to exchange my salad. It honestly tasted like blue cheese. The manager was very rude and seemed to want to do nothing but argue. I ended up just leaving the salad up front and sitting back down. He proceeded to tell me that an employee had tried the dressing and there was nothing wrong with it.A few minutes later, he approached our table and admitted there was something off about the dressing. He was still curt and never once humbled himself as a manager should. It was very uncomfortable and was our first bad experience at any Newk’s.
LOVE Newk’s!. Great service, timely food, and always very delicious. Can’t find another place in Birmingham that does salads like Newk’s. Highly recommend!
Pizza is awesome!. Best cheese pizza in Birmingham! I like simple, flavorful pizza, not overloaded with grease or onion……….found it at Newk’s!!! 🙂
Typically love this place, but my salmon was WAY over cooked today and there was not a shred of romaine lettuce in my Caesar salad. All outer leaves of green leaf lettuce. Ew.
Waited in line for ten minutes and finally got to the register only to be told we would have to get our order to go since they were closing @ 8:00. It was 7:45 at the time. The line behind us was out the door. In our restaurant we would be staying open as long as it took to serve all those customers!02 Dec, 2013Waited
