When my family walked in, we were immediately greeted by the cashier behind the counter. At first, we where thrown off by the almost fast food appearance of the restaurant. But don’t let the drive thru, automated cashier machine, and the soda fountain fool you: this is a true-rooted rib joint. A menu with a diverse arrangement of iconic soul foods, a kind and welcoming staff willing to have a laugh or two with you, and hearty helpings chock full guilty pleasure eats; all of these kept us engaged with this restaurant.
This joint is a hidden gem downtown. Friendly staff and excellent soul food. Ribs were nice and big–wished they had smoked them a little, but they were covered with a really good sauce that almost made up for the lack of smoke flavor. All of the sides were great, as well. Step outside your Jim ‘n’ Nicks, Dreamland, Full Moon comfort zone once in a while and give a place like this a try.
Faithful Patron. I love this place. I work about 4 blocks away and it offers me nice lunch everytime I go. I venture across the menu but my go to items are: The enormous chef salad that can feed at least 2 people or the Pull pork sandwich and fries. Now on the weekends, my family gets the ribs, turnip greens and mac & cheese. I have yet to be disappointed with anything I have tried. The bbq sauce is delicious. I get this instead of salad dressing for my chef salad that includes: a huge bed of lettuce, tomatoes, ham, cheese, boiled eggs and smoked chicken.
