Usually my reviews include a story about my dining experience at the restaurant under discussion. Ive had so many dinners at Foodbar I cant tell just one story. The fact that Ive had so many dinners here ought to tell you something about the place. In case it doesnt let me spell it out:D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-SChef George is always working on new items: house cured ham and peas, for instance. The Santorini salad appetizer is a winner, and a better sign of spring than the first robin. Youll find entrees at Foodbar that you wont find anywhere else, like bacon wrapped shad roe (mmm, tasty!) and the things that are served at other restaurants pale in comparison. Crab claws? Yeah you can get fried crab claws at other places, and sure, you can say that fried crab claws are fried crab claws. But you cant say that about the sauted crab claws. The ones at Foodbar are without peer. And the house made cocktail sauce and tartar sauce? Holy Crap! Brillat-Savarinhimself never feasted on such ambrosia. Whoever heard of a radish as an appetizer, you may wonder? Taste the different iterations of the Snows Bend garden radish at Foodbarwith whipped Feta, or with fleur de seland you wont be wondering any more. The saffron beurre blanc will have you cheering (it did, me. no lie). The salmon, the steaks, the lamb, the veggiesdid George sell his soul or something? How does he make such consistently wonderful food? And the service is extraordinary. Bartender David, servers Michelle, Abby, John and the rest cannot be stumped. Ask them anything about any dish and they know the answer. Unsure of what to order? Trust their recommendations. Special dietary needs? Dont be bashful about making them known.I recently signed up for a new cable TV provider. During the signup process I was asked, when you call customer service, well ask you a question in order to prove its really you trying to access your account: What is your favorite restaurant? I said, Thats easy. Foodbar. I was doing this in person, not on the phone with a rep in Kansas. The rep said, Foodbar? Whats that? I canceled the order then and there. No matter what kind of introductory discount they were offering, I cant have my TV service provided by a bunch of barbarians.
