The real deal.. This place is no joke. I’ve been to all of the supposed ‘fine dining’ establishments in Tuscaloosa and Northport. This place is legit. The price is what really surprised me. I took an ex-love there one late night many moons ago, started off with a strawberry bruschetta– I still remember it to this day (this was years ago, mind you). I ordered the rack of Lamb, I don’t recall what she ordered but I remember she was as amazed as I was.Atmosphere? You can hardly believe you are in Alabama. Not only are the floors not dirt, no ridiculous nonsense blaring on a television, and no condescending attitudes pushed onto you by a barely coherent staff, but you feel as if though you’ve stepped into some extremely exclusive members only sort of establishment– and the staff treats you accordingly. You can tell that a lot of thought went into every single detail from the mysteriously delightful decor to the attire of the employees.Service? Top quality (At the time it was pure Justice, I hope it still is because Mr. Justice prevailed that night. How often do you remember the name of a host/waiter years after the experience? Sure, if it is a memorable name, but even more memorable is a professional and inviting demeanor).Presentation? Absolutely astounding. The garnishing is perfect, not overdone. At the end of our meal they had opened a bottle of Champagne for another couple who appeared to know the owners, they brought us two glasses and poured freely of their own accord. That is what I call service. As I said, you can hardly believe you are in Alabama. I’ve dined from San Diego to New Orleans to Michigan and never had such a pleasantly memorable experience. The part that I simply couldn’t believe was the price. I was expecting it to be 2 or 3x as much. I remember feeling somewhat guilty that the price was so low, I felt as though I owed them more. I left the remainder of what I thought the meal was worth as a tip, and I look forward to doing it again soon.Gordon Ramsay needs to visit this place, he’d learn a thing or two IMO.
Went here with family for the first time. I had heard good things…unfortunately this place did not live up to the hype. Waiter never asked the entire party if we wanted anything to drink other than water. My dinner the chicken with Spanish rice and dill sauce tasted generic. The rice tasted like something I would have bought from a microwave pack and dill sauce tasted like taziki sauce without the cucumber…my husband’s shrimp was very good quality but was overpowered by a thick cream sauce. Atmosphere was good. This would not be the first place on my list for places to eat dinner.
Best in Alabama!. After eating at Evangeline’s in Tuscaloosa, it is our favorite and only place for dinner. We continue bringing different family members here, and they agree that it is the best. The menu has many choices and changes weekly. There is always something new and delicious. I order the crab cakes every time I go, because they are the best in the South and Gulf Coast! Generous helpings, decadent food, ambiance, white table cloths…what more can one ask?
This is where you want to eat tonight!. I have eaten here several times and I never leave unhappy or hungry! I recommend the crab cakes, the shrimp and grits, the filet, and everything else on the menu. Their crab cakes made 100 Things to Eat before you Die in Alabama and after eating them you can die happy! I have had the privilege of eating in numerous port cities and I have never had a better crab cake! Ask for Dave the manager to get some history of the restaurant!
Crab cakes were fantastic. Chicken salad was good. Nice atomsphere and place to take your spouse.
Lovely but just Okay. Service was excellent for the large group we had. It is a quiet, well appointed restaurant. Appetizers were delicious, particularly the pear and cheese pizza.. The house Piont Noir was very good. My only complaint was that the dish I ordered was $18.95 and was an airline breast (very small), terrible green beans (Haricot Verts – which just confuses most people), that is it. The Chicken was good just smaller than normal on a dinner menu, I would order something different next time. My husband said his shrimp and grits was very good. The really weird thing was suddenly we were all given our checks without being asked if we would like coffee or desert. Again, the wait staff was very on point except for this. We were so surprised we just paid and left.I remembered why we usually choose other fine dining in Tuscaloosa.
Had the special… Pork chop… It was the best damn pork chop that I think I have EVER eaten.
