Love their sauce.. I picked up some of their sauce at the Piggly Wiggly in North Port as a local food souvenir and brought it home to Tampa. I love it (Now I wish I would have tried their Bar-B-Que). It’s not the thick type. It has the right combination of vinegar, tomato, sugar, mustard, and a little red pepper. If the sauce is an indicator the ‘Que should be great.
Great people, good sauce. As a recent transplant to the South, I am certainly no authority on ribs, but I do love the way they make them around here, & Thomas Rib Shack is no exception. We have gotten carry-out from them 2-3 times & have always had good quality ribs that are cooked just right (i.e., not too fatty or dry & burnt, as we’ve had at Dreamland on one occasion or another). Their sauce ranks about 3rd in town after Archibald’s & Dreamland, but that is because I prefer the tanginess of the latter two over the ever-so-slightly sweeter edge of the Thomas sauce (But they bottle their sauce to sell if that is to your particular taste. We’ve made several sauce purchases as gifts for folks back home). Aside from their ribs & sauce, I happened to buy a few fried chicken legs for my kids one time when I was getting a pick-up order & took a bite, & I’ll be damned if that wasn’t the best fried chicken I’ve tasted in T-town. It had the spicy kick of Gus’ Fried Chicken in Memphis. So I will have to make a run for just the fried chicken in the near future. And to top it off, when all is said & done, the Thomas family are really nice people & I find it a pleasure to give my business to folks like that who deserve it!
