Does the Tardis serve BBQ? I think so. Seemingly tiny on the outside, the place can probably seat well over a hundred. I thought it was good but nothing great. I’d certainly go again but only if we’re in the area.
This was some of the best BBQ I have ever had, I’m glad that I took advantage of the groupon
An Avondale Staple. A staple in Avondale for many years, the place is full of regulars. Seating is comfortable with ample parking. Food options go beyond BBQ offering daily meat specials with veggies as well as burgers. The food is nothing special but the atmosphere is.
Words can’t describe. Carlisle’s. What can I say about the BBQ beef plate that I had for lunch the other day? For starters, it had the appearance of something that you’d find on the living room floor after leaving your dog in house for a week while you were on vacation. The flavor had not the slightest resemblance to beef nor did the sauce taste like what one would expect BBQ sauce to taste like. If you were to blindfold me and serve me the contents of an Alpo can side by side with the beef plate, I would probably not be able to distinguish the two. I just couldn’t stomach it. I did enjoy the friendly staff and lots of abnormal looking folks to look at while you eat. I will be going backfor the pork plate though.
An institution in the Avondale/Southside area–Carlisle’s is one of my favorite bbqs in the city. The pit is right there to see when you enter so you know it’s fresh and authentic. The veggies and saads are well-made and desserts have a homemade touch too. I used to work in the Avondale area while I was in grad school and Wednsdays were always Carlisle’s days for the office– the boss would order 40 large sandwiches and we’d really pig out!!!
A Birmingham Favorite. Whenever I am in the Avondale area I make an effort to get lunch at Carliles and have been doing this since the 70’s. Nothing here has changed in 40+ years and I hope it never does. Great, great barbeque. Put this one on the list…Cheers.
