ABSOLUTELY love this place. From the moment you walk in, you get to enjoy the flowers and candles and open doors. Be sure to go there not too hungry or expect to pay a big bill. They serve small plates (kind of like tappas) at around $10 to $18 each. The portions are small and the menu changes. So its an average of 2 to 3 plates per person.

We decided to celebrate my dear husband’s birthday here..The atmosphere of this restaurant is inviting and open. We loved how the doors could open outside to the courtyard’s surrounding it. So many unique pieces of art as well as birdbaths. The food was out of this world amazing!!! Chelsey W was our Server and she kept our meals well paced throughout our brunch. We began with the biscuits al horno (which is the best biscuit/croissant combination( with homemade orange marmalade (my hubb’s favorite). He had the Cafe Agavero which is a Spanish Irish Coffee, which he really liked. Chelsey suggested the Omelette Grammajo which was delicious with eggs, Serrano ham and potato. Jim had the Full Spanish Breakfast which was fantastic, each bite full a delight with boudin rouge, grits, poached egg, burnt tomato, avocado, chimichurri oven roasted potatoes. We were privileged to taste the Beef Fat Candle which you have to taste to believe!! We will never forget that tasty dish!!! Chelsey was simply a joy to have served us with such finesse and charm. . Also, to end our wonderful meal, we had the beignets which had dulce de leche and spiced sugar. The Revelator Coffee is simply marvelous too, even for a non-coffee drinker as I am. The Manager, Zach came by our table to make sure we were happy. We shared with him that we were so ever pleased with everything. This meal was not cheap but every forkful was an experience that we will long remember! In the future, we will bring friends so they can share this culinary joy with us!!!

My husband and I took our two daughters to OvenBird last night before seeing Wicked. It was our first visit and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Our server was on point. Attentive, helpful and paced the small plate dishes to be delivered in perfect timing. When we placed our order, he realized we didn’t quite have enough for the table so appropriately made recommendations for one more dish which turned out perfectly. We ordered the olives, cheese plate, beef fat candle, beef empanada, swordfish with grits, beef shoulder and the 7 layer cake. Everything was fantastic and no one could really decide which was their favorite dish! The atmosphere was lovely and the restaurant had much more seating than I expected. Such a great experience. We will definitely return.

Chris Hastings’ Hot n Hot Fish club has been the standard bearer for great food in Birmingham for sometime, but with OvenBird he sets a new bar! This place is pure Awesomeness! The decor is rustic yet refined with open views to the kitchens where most menu items are prepared over open flames or in wood fired ovens! The menus is strongly influenced by traditional Spanish tapas dining. The portions are smaller so you can try more! We tried almost the entire menu between our table of 8, and there was nothing that faltered. With that said, the beef candle was the stand out, simply due to the creativity! This is beef fat rendered then shaped into a candle, lit in a bowl with sofrito. Dipping bread into that mixture was an amazing and completely new taste experience. This will be one of my mainstays moving forward! Check out my pictures!

Delicious food, very small portions, beautiful patio/gardens, and horrific service. We are hoping the problems are worked out with their staff because we would love to visit again.
