Crows nest is among the top fine dining restaurants in Anchorage. While Anchorage is blessed with a number of excellent fine dining establishments, crows nest is the only one that is able to combine all of the elements successfully. The ambience at the top floor of the hotel Captain Cook is incredible. The waitstaff are trained to silver service waiting standards. The ambience and cleanliness of the restaurant are beyond reproach. The wine expert is among the best in the country. And lastly, and DEFINITELY not least, the food is incredible. Over the course of five years I have been to crows nest no fewer than 20 times, and I have NEVER left disappointed with my meal or felt like I did not get my money’s worth. Their unique take on a banana split is an absolute must.

The waitress made the night!. We had a party of 6 in the Lounge last night and even though the food and drinks were wonderful, our waitress Katie made the night even better,We ordered the artisan cheese plate and the charcuterie, and she was extremely knowledgeable on everything on the plates, she didn’t stutter once and said it with impeccable finesse. The only down side was the kitchen forgot one of the ingredients on our cheese plate, but Katie made sure it made it to the table before we had barley started eating. Katie was very accommodating and attentive and I think she deserves a raise.

Good but needs a change. We dined here last week for the 5th time in a year, this time the service was REALLY bad and I’m getting really sick of having the same food everytime. The menu needs a complete overhaul and they also need to offer ‘specials’ each night. I don’t eat seafood which leaves me with 3 choices, 2 steaks or NZ elk. For the cost of the meal, you would expect to have more choice. Anyway, the 4 times before last week were great but I’m giving it a miss until the menu changes!

Love the food, but one time I got their salmon was not cooked at all. Very disappointed.

Crow’s Nest didn’t quite deliver for me…. …but, in all fairness, I work behind the scenes in a local restaurant and KNOW when I’m being bamboozled. But, again, in all fairness, I s’pose that the price of a dinner there MUST include that amazing view. We started at the bar. I loved that the bartender was ‘seasoned’ ‘cuz our drinks were made to perfection. But what I didn’t like about him was his lack of eye contact when he spoke to us. I never understand this ‘rude’ gesture. It doesn’t take but a few seconds of eye contact to turn the experience positive. Our servers at table side were great. Attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, and unobtrusive. We ordered Paella right away after seeing it on the menu because we felt it would take some time to prep. I was truly disappointed with their version of this wonderful dish. They opted for a seafood style Paella. Did I mention this dish was $72 for two. Traditional Paella is made with long grain rice. The orzo here just didn’t do it for me. It was heavy and not quite the right flavor profile. The smoked chorizo was WAY overcooked, tough and leathery. The fish and shell fish were scant at best with the whole dish being taken over by the orzo. NOT worth $72 by a LONG shot. We decided not to order dessert. We didn’t want to take the risk of being ‘shafted’ again. It’ll be a while before I decide to give them another chance. BIG disappointment.

Quality service, excelent food, great view. What could be better? Go early if you like the quiet, because the bar crowd, albeit a respectful group, starts ramping up around 7:30.
