We ordered: 1. A seafood sa…. We ordered:1. A seafood salad with dressing & olives ON THE SIDE. 2. A cup of shrimp gumbo soup & 2 pieces of garlic toast, all to go. When I opened the boxes we got: 1 sea food salad with olives & dressing ON the salad. NOTHING ON THE SIDE.2 cups of soup, NOT just 1.1 wholewheat roll. NOT 2, & a ROLL NOT garlic toast. I don’t know how they could have SCREWED the order more.

A lot of words for a lot of good food.. Fletchers is a unique and long-standing restaurant and bar located inside the Captain Cook Hotel and has a history extending back into the 1970s. Fletchers uses its excellent food, outstanding service and charming, unique atmosphere to provide customers a comfortable place to eat and unwind.Although the portions of some dishes can be relatively small, all of Fletchers dishes are satisfying and delicious. The two most popular dinner dishes are the half-dozen oysters and the spaghetti with turkey meatballs, while the best dessert is the delectable mud pie. Both dinner dishes are prime examples of superior taste and presentation. The oysters are from the Atlantic or the Pacific Ocean (depending on the season) and are served over a bed of large-grain sea salt, lemon slices, peppercorns and various other seasonings. This style of presentation makes it look as though the oysters are being served right off the beach with sand and debris that are pleasing to the eyes and stomach. The turkey meatball spaghetti features turkey meatballs cooked to tender perfection, saturated in a delicious marinara sauce and seated neatly atop coils of well-prepared pasta noodles. The dish is then crowned with freshly chopped cilantro and parsley, making for a very surprising fresh sensation when consumed with the meatballs and pasta. The dessert is a frosty slice of chocolate cream pie sandwiched between a slice of vanilla cream pie and an Oreo crust and topped off with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel sauce drizzle. The pie slices are usually well proportioned and certainly deliver the meal to a satisfying, sugar-induced, comatose end.In terms of service Fletchers is pretty oustanding. While it can get fairly busy at night, the service is generally very good. Both the waiting staff and bussers are prompt, polite, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile to ensure the best-possible restaurant experience. The waiters are quick to answer any queries on menu choices and willing and able to do what they can to fulfill special requests. Like many hotel restaraunts, guests of the hotel who frequent the restaurant can have their meals billed to their room total and may get information on shuttle schedules or great spots in Anchorage to visit from the staff. The busser staff is highly polite, motivated and get tables cleared, cleaned and reoccupied as quickly and efficiently as possible. The bussers are also willing to share their helpful information on the hotspots and entertaining quirks of Anchorage with any customer. The Fletchers bar staff are courteous, good listeners who always have something interesting to talk about, be it the meaning behind the native Alaskan term, Oosik, or their personal tastes in art, sports or music. Doubtlessly, each encounter with the Fletchers staff is guaranteed to provide an entertaining and memorable evening.Lastly, the most arguably attractive aspect of Fletchers is its atmosphere. The English pub-style environment is filled with subtle decorative details that tie the restaurant back to the theme of the Captain Cook Hotel. The atmosphere effectively takes the customer from the busy downtown streets of Anchorage to the fine dinning hall of a great sailing ship in moments. Elaborate and finely detailed wooden carvings sit overhead, while deceptively modern lighting fixtures illuminate the dining areas. Beautiful and interesting paintings of captain James Cook, his crew and the many stops in his voyages hang on the walls, while a clean, marble-topped bar makes for a classy and comfortable place to have a drink. The popularity of Fletchers is the icing on the cake of its atmosphere and nearly every night is busy. The bar is a popular place to stop by and share a drink, make new friends and catch up on football, basketball, boxing or whatever happens to be in season. Meanwhile, the delicious food and complementary fresh bread are major attractants to those who not big on the bar scene. There are always interesting conversations going on at each table and each group at the bar. The lively rhythm of Fletchers is always attractive and stimulating and sure to bring customers back time and again.Ultimately, a visit to Fletchers is delicious, fun, intriguing and a pretty satisfying experience. While Fletchers is not the best location to eat in Anchorage, it is definitely near the top of my list, with the food, service and absorbing atmosphere to prove it.

I realize the majority of readers don’t want a long review so just skip to the last paragraph if u want. Okay so I’m actually writing this in progress of the meal. I know dead table conversation right. So far my experience was less then good. There was no one at the door to seat us so we waited for a couple minutes, but that’s not so bad considering there was no table ready anyway. I just finished splitting a shrimp cocktail and a Caesar salad to start and they were both great. I’m now finishing the fettuchini Alfredo and its also good.Overall the food was great, but the service was sun par. I’d go back again if only to make sure it wasn’t a fluke.
