Family Run Gem!. This Mexican restaurant may not be as large or as mainstream as some of the other sin town but it is worth a visit none the less. It is run by a faun, friendly family and the menu offers some authentic Mexican dishes that you will not find elsewhere in town. The ceviche they serve is a fun dish to share. It is served in a big sundae bowl and is full of shrimp, scallops, avocado, cilantro and other ingredients. It has a bit of a kick to it, but is so tasty and citrus filled that you cannot help but keep coming back for more. The tacos de Borrego are not to be missed either. There are not too many places in town selling lamb tacos, but Mexico In Alaska does and theirs taste wonderful. They are seasoned with Achiote, but not to the extent that it overpowers the flavor of the meat and other herbs and spices. This dish includes 3 tacos, and they are not hard to demolish! The pork tacos are also very good, and it is a shame that pork is not better represented at some of the other Mexican restaurants in town. Mexico in Alaska serves another pork dish too, Carne de Puerco. Small pieces of spiced fried pork in a Jalapeno sauce. I asked for my sauce to be on the mild side and they happily accommodated my request. This restaurant also does well packed to-go orders.

Disappointing. I heard ‘Mexico in Alaska’ was the best Mexican food in Anchorage. However, it was my experience that:-the service was mediocre- tacos were bad, lacking flavor, and very cheap servings on filling, and sauces (we ordered variety plate of 5 tacos and none were easily edible), -guacamole had weird flavor and was a very cheap and sparse serving with the bottom of bowl filled with old lettuce to make it look full, and -cheap, sparse serving of tortillas, with the basket served being about 1/5 full.Positives are-colorfully decorated inside, servers and host were cheerful if inattentive (we waited a long time to be sat even though it wasn’t very busy, noone came to check on us during meal), the tortillas and salsa had great flavor and seemed very fresh. All in all, a disappointing experience and we won’t be back.
