Solid Choice. Grabbed a bite here last week during a break in training. Loved, loved the atmosphere! It’s almost as if Anchorage finally has a place that measures up to its contemporaries. Prices were reasonable, given the average around here. Service was great. The food was a solid B. I had the seafood chowder and beet salad with chevre. The seafood chowder was fantastic, but the chevre on the salad tasted off–like it had started going bad. Then again, in my ignorance of haute cuisine, maybe chevre is on the list of GOOD stinky cheeses? Otherwise, a solid choice for the downtown crowd.
Self-Defeating. My friends and I sincerely *want* to LIKE Muse, yet they continue to perfect the art of shooting themselves in the food (pun intended). Since its opening in 2009, a group of foodie friends try it every few months, hoping things have improved (mainly the poor service). Our most recent attempt was an after work celebration for a friends promotion, but we were foiled in our quest before we could even start. Imagine our surprise to arrive at Muse only to learn that it was CLOSED! Thats right, although they have a Happy Hour promotion; theyre only open for Happy Hour/Dinner on Thursdays-Saturdays (see the bizarre schedule below per Muse website). Were this the middle of winter, once could perhaps understand the restricted hours, but this is SUMMER! Peak tourist season! The caf at the Museum (main tourist attraction)! How can you expect to build a loyal, local clientele, with these bizarre hours?? Perhaps the Marx Bros are spread too thin, with robust operations at the Mothership impacting the care and feeding of the Muse stepchild. Good food, awful staff. I’ve been here often and only rarely gotten decent service. I go back for the food which is reasonably priced for what you get (a bit fru fru). Long wait, drinks are hit and miss. They often offer groupons.
My lox and bagel for lunch tasted great and was beautifully presented but the staff was awful. Including a long wait because the chef burnt the first bagel. Experience not worth the price

Initially very excited about the prospect of dining at the museum, even more excited when I entered.The atmosphere was warm and inviting, unfortunately that’s where the positives came to a abrupt stop. The staff was rude and any time they happened to grace us with their presence that seemed bothered to fill water or bring another glass of wine. The food was over priced and the portions meager. My duck was over cooked and drowned in sauce. The only thing on my plate that was in abundance was plane unseasoned white rice and more roast fenel than anyone could ever care to eat. In closing between bad service and poorly executed food, not a place I would recommend
Don’t waste your time or $$$. So gross and if you are vegetarian forget about this place. You get a very very very small salad or creamy pasta. The lunch prices are the same as dinner. I have tried this place out twice with co-workers….luckily we had a groupon otherwise I would be angry. Will not go back.
