My sister Barbara’s and my favorite place for our Thursday evening out. Every food item we have tried is excellent. I like D-1 dinner combo with ample servings of perfectly-cooked flavor-all-the-way-through chicken teriyaki, lightly breaded shrimp and veggie tempura, also done right without the oiliness that can happen at inferior places (my favorite is the mushroom), a delicious four-piece California roll, properly sticky rice, and a couple of broccoli mini-trees. The meal starts with an unremarkable-but-pleasant salad with a vinaigrette dressing, miso soup done exactly like I remember it from my years of living in Japan, and a delightful small dish of a cold, vinegary noodle preparation. The food is only one aspect of the Sushi Ya dining experience that makes it delightful. The service is friendly and, if you get there early enough, very quick. Getting there during the busiest time day, from around 5:30 to 7:30 will find the place hopping and service gets a bit slower asks only to be expected for such a popular place. The smooth jazz music is played softly enough not to interfere with conversations. The decor and lighting are unique and very pleasing to the eye. In short, though it’s too late to say that, we love this place! Come by on a Thursday just before five and you may see Barbara and I. You can tell me then just how right I was about Sushi Ya!
Chicken was overcooked and service took forever. The dinner combo wasn’t up to par with the rest of the food, but was ok. Odd location makes it hard to want to come back.
