There are better burgers in town but Tommy’s is probably on the edge of top 5 in town. The only reason I don’t rate it higher is the irregular service. Sometimes they’re nice as can be and sometimes they’re so gruffyou wonder why you’re giving them your business. On top of that, sometimes it seems as if getting orders out the door is secondary to them. It’s not due to too many tickets in the queue, it seems to be an attitude thing. If they’re having a good day you get it fast, if they’re having a bad day find a comfy place to wait. Overall I usually convince myself to go elsewhere when I’m in the mood for a burger simply because of the varied level of service Tommy’s suffers from.
I’ve found that Anchorage lacks a certain level of quality in most of it’s restaurants, but there are some exceptions, and Tommy’s Burger Stop is one of them.Tommy’s Burger Stop has the best burgers in Anchorage by a long shot. But it is very much a dive; there’s no place to sit and it’s pretty unsanitary. The prices are cheap as far as Anchorage is concerned and the staff are very friendly; I just wish the owner would market the business better, because this is one that is too-often missed.I highly recommend it, but don’t order-in.
Nasty Manager/Man. Being the best burgers in town its hard for me to give them a bad review but I feel behavior by management is just as important as food and service. On a busy Saturday on a early winter afternoon I strolled in knowing I would be waiting 30 to 40 minutes for a burger (to go). After about 30 minutes a very nasty and unprofessional man charged in and verbally assaulted the woman cook. In all my years in the service industry I have never witnessed such awful behavior. He charged into the kitchen and went off in profane language belittling the woman. Clearly he was the owner, partner or manager, he yelled and did so in such a public and open place everyone there heard, felt awful and was clearly upset over his behavior and reaction to the chaos in the kitchen. Upon leaving I asked to speak to the man and was told he was not available by their server, as he stood 5 feet away. After this event I was so disgusted by him and his awful and disrespectful behavior I will swear off the best burger in town.
Good burgers, but odd service. Been here a couple times, because honestly the burgers are some of the best in town, but the service can be hit or miss. Its a tiny little hole in the wall place with workers whom I assume are all friends or related to Tommy somehow. They are super nice, but not very professional by any means. But thats kinda what you get when you go to a small hole in the wall kind of eatery, staff whom aren’t uptight servers. The workers at Tommy’s place are super casual, and will even sit down and talk to you while you’re eating (I had a long talk about politics with one of the ladies while she made milkshakes) and while I don’t wanna assume anything, I feel like they wouldn’t care if you complained about something (unless it was something super wrong like an uncooked burger, etc.) because they would instead just refuse you service (unlike chains that have to deal with irate customers). I dont think its necessarily bad, you just need to know what youre getting into when you go to eat there. Don’t expect fast service, though it could be, or good service, because it can be bad or good. Just go with an open mind and hopefully you’ll get an awesome burger!
Amazing. Even though we got 2 burgers, 2 drinks, and an order of onion rings for $30, it was worth it. Filled us up and we didn’t finish it, the onion rings we’re obviously fresh and homemade and it was the best I’ve ever had. The service was the best here. She took care of us and made sure we got what we wanted. When they messed up our order she gave us a free cake for the extra wait. Best service in anchorage alaska!! Definitely one of our favorite spots now.
Good burger! Poor atmosphere – Screaming music and a female cook who tried to out scream the music.
Incredibly Rude!!!!!. I could care less how good the burgers are at this point!! After being put on hold (or their idea of being put on hold, sitting the phone down and taking other peoples orders) and hung up on twice just making a simple attempt to order take out. I’ve had it with this place. One would think that with the already escaladed prices for everything on the menu, they could afford to have an extra person to answer the phone… but of course this would never happen in Anchorage. I truly enjoy hearing business owners such as presumably this one complain every time an out of town franchise comes to Anchorage and thrives… Places like Tommys need to learn a lesson from places like McDonalds, learn how to treat people and maybe they will come back.
