Here for Shootout. Beautiful facility. Had wine and pupus prior to to women’s championship game with UAA. Nice views overlooking court. Get a reservation for a good seat. Portions are ok. Halibut app is expensive and only 4 small bites. Humus platter nice. Wine ok. Huge step up from Sullivan.
*Finally* a great deck with a mountain view AND good food. There aren’t many restaurants with big decks in town. Even fewer have mountain views. Over the years I’ve just tolerating the mediocre food at these places so I can enjoy the vistas. (Sorry, Snow Goose, but I’ve given you so many chances and your food always disappoints.) This place has an AMAZING deck, probably seats about 80 and every table has a mountain view. The deck is partially covered so if the weather is iffy it’s still a safe bet. They have plenty of heaters, friendly waitstaff, and (relief!) delicious food. The deck area doesn’t have a sports bar vibe at all; definitely appropriate for date night. This is going to be my new go-to for sunny lunches and happy hours — at least until everyone else discovers it and I can’t get a seat anymore. 🙂
Fun place to go, Great Food!. The Seawolf Burger is scrumptious and they have a good selection of beers. The interior of the Varsity Sports Grill is beautiful. If they could do one thing better, it would be to air the UAA hockey games on their television’s when the team is playing away games. We asked, and they said that they weren’t able to get the feed there. The Crossbar and Peanut Farm air the UAA hockey away games, so hopefully Varsity Sports Grill get it figured out soon. That aside, stellar place to eat!
Good food, great local beer selection. Don’t go there when there is a concert, it’s closed early for the VIP’s. No signs are posted. It’s also easier to take the elevator, the restaurant is on the top floor. Bathrooms are outside the restaurant. The owner of the restaurant’s attitude is chutna. That being said, the food is pretty good. I ordered the Asian Grilled Salmon Sandwich, it was amazing. The salmon was cooked just right, blackened on the ends (not too much, not too little), the meat was cooked perfectly. The sauce they use really takes the sandwich to another level. On top of the bun was a yellowish tomato that was a tad sweet, and a sweet pickle (meh). The fries were da bomb. Literally. The seasoning was just the right amount, and the fries had a nice crunch to them. Food came in nice and hot (not too hot to eat).I ordered the Alaska White Ale (new favorite beer) and it was frosty and refreshing. I believe it was a 16 oz. and unlike the Crossbar it actually appears to be a 16 oz. Though the glasses were dirty on the outside, they weren’t on the inside. Probably breaking in the dishwasher. My gf ordered the half sandwich and salad. Her blt was okay, bacon was good but no taste from the croissant/lettuce/tomato. Her Caesar salad was okay too, three croutons but plenty of parmesan. My gf loved my sandwich, and I agreed her food was okay. They make their own dressings, only three. A classic Caesar came with the salad, was pretty good.We ordered the strawberry short cake, and it was decent to try. The seasme brittle was the highlight, delicious in every way. Strawberries were more sour than sweet, the amount of whipped cream made up for it though. Shortcake was decent. Good to try, but the lemon cake sounded better!
