Let’s face it, we are in Anchorage Alaska. Keeping that in mind, the quality of Mexican food that you can get here is generally mediocre at best. In fact I’m surprised at the number of Mexican restaurants here and how downright disgusting most of them are. Xalos is easily the best Mexican restaurant in Anchorage. I’m not promising then you’re going to get the same quality of food that you would get in a place like San Antonio or El Paso. But for good Mexican food, it’very acceptable. The only real gripe that I have is that like all other Mexican restaurants in the state of Alaska, they don’t make their own tortillas, either flour or corn. Homemade tortillas would really kick their cuisine up a notch and bring them slightly closer to the Mexican cuisine of southern California Arizona New Mexico and Texas.
I was not a believer when I first went here because of the pricing but working near here and eating here more and more I now crave their food. gotta love the Cinco DE mayo burrito I’ve never seen this anywhere else. best Mexican food I have had in AK so far.
Best Mexican Food in Alaska. The food here is amazing. The seasoning is some of the best I’ve every had. From the subtle hint of cinnamon in the habanero pepper sauce to the hand made pickled veggies everything is delicious. Sauted veggies are seasoned perfectly. All items are good but the taco salad is world class!!!
Taco Alambre. Steak, grilled veggies, a little cheese, cilantro, and an avocado salsa. Served with lime to squeeze over. Delish!
Queen of Hearts. I haven’t found a good Mexican place here in Alaska except for one of my good friends house. Once I tried this place, they had me coming back week after week for lunch. I told my co workers to go and now they are hooked. They also have great prices, Im use to paying $70-90 for my entire family to eat and we only paid $40 and walked out full. Staff is friendly, bathrooms are clean, tables are clean, nice environment, and great food.
Expected more…especially for the price.. Burrito, torta, taco, soft drink and chips (they were a buck). Total price $33.15. Taco Alambre was great. Picante Burrito was ok. Torta…drowned in sauce and was more like a burrito on a bun. For the price, not overly pleased. Charged for the chips and they felt boxed and not made fresh. Gave em a try and sadly nothing makes me want to come back. For the price, would have happily spent it at Papa Murphys and felt better…wait, don’t they make a taco pizza? Yeah, sorry this place was ok…and I had expected more.
Picante Burrito. Very good flavor and just a enough spice! Wasn’t too hot but I love hot. I did carnitas which was really good no fat and very flavorful. Lovely presentation. Would go back for sure.
