The Hot Bite has all of the potential to be an excellent place to eat in Juneau… Unfortunately the money-grubbing, penny-pinching owner has failed to do anything but produce mediocre food served and made by mediocre kids all for the cost of a very pretty penny. In order to save a couple bucks and some change per hour the owner appears to have employed a flock of confused pre-teens. I am sure that he has entrapped them with the use of some Sith mind trick. I base this assumption off of the dazed and confused expressions on each of their faces. I don’t think any of them know that they are working in a burger joint… Their attention spans are very low, they must be trying to remember their names or how they got there… so this will affect this accuracy of your order. Each time I return to this sad establishment I am reminded that it helps to speak v-e-r-y… s-l-o-w-l-y… to ensure your order is received correctly. Although a hefty 85% of the time I still get some sort of Burger-Russian-Roulette I am happy to say that the previous 0% success rate has now boosted to an impressive 15%!The wait time is similar to the the expectations of a father waiting to see his newborn baby. It feels like an eternity and you’re anxious to see if everyting turned out okay. Luckily the staff here at Hot Bite are not part-time nurses overlooking the care of newborns, because you’d probably be walking out with someone else’s baby if that were the case.Seriously though, they will take 30+ minutes to complete your order, make it wrong, then get angry at you for not happily eating this mystery dish they’ve made you pay for.(To Hot Bite: Guys, it’s simple math… Allergy to onions = a possible lawsuit). The mascot for the Hot Bite is a rockfish. But good luck trying to find any there. They have one or two measley halibut options at the price of an arm and a leg. But no halibut and/or rockfish fish & chips or tacos?! What do they use? The owner of the Hot Bite has chosen to feed unsuspecting tourists (and locals) grey cod, the world’s second most abundant fish. If this cheapskate can’t afford to put halibut fish and chips on the menu of a popular Alaskan tourist joint then where else is he compromising? This lackluster seafood/burger joint is not worth your time or money. I’d skip it and rethink your travel destinations. Book a trip to Anchorage and go to Humpy’s. They get it right.
