Saw dust on the floor and kitsch decorations aside, we enjoyed our pints of the local Alaskan Brewery White Ale and our serve of fresh salmon dip and crackers. The local guitarist added to the fun.
Great place. The beer is always cold and the food is always good. The service can be a bit slow from time to time, but it is a tourist spot so a little of that is to be expected. Another must in Juneau.
This is my second visit, and I love this place. It’s an old saloon like one you might envision during the gold rush. The floor is covered in sawdust. The servers wear red-light district corsets. The piano plays the whole time with more than a little off color bar humor. It’s simply awesome. The food is pretty good. I enjoyed my Alaskan Reindeer Sausage. Pair it with an Alaskan Amber. We tried loaded potato skins, Kasaan Chicken Tenders, McKinley BBQ Pork and the Avalanche Burger. This is an absolute fun stop especially if the piano guys are playing. If the pianos are not going, give this a 4.0.
The Ribs. This was a huge amount of food. Excellent tasty and just right amount of bbq sauce.
My grandfather told us about visiting Red Dog saloon in his navy days for years, and on a cruise on the Alaskan coast I finally got to experience it. It is definitely a novelty experience for younger generations, but very fun nonetheless. The decor is whimsical and it creates a very unique atmosphere. The food is on par, and the service is good, albeit spread a little thin when things get busy. I would definitely recommend Red Dog to tourists, but locals may not enjoy the experience as much.
Fun atmosphere but airport quality food (down to the plastic knives and forks) and sub-par service. There are better places to go.
You have to try this place.. This is an authentic Alaska saloon. They have the biggest burger that you will ever see. Don’t miss it.
