My favorite in Alaska. This is a pretty good spot for both lunch and dinner. When it’s cold outside you can relax near a fireplace and go over all the adventures you have had in Juneau. It’s hard to beat those BIG Alaskan King Crab legs with clarified butter. There are also a great selection of local fish including good old Alaskan salmon and very good Halibut. They also has Taco’s, homemade pizza’s and a selection of Chowders. A very good menu.We got rained in and basically went from lunch to dinner. Nice local people and good service made the time pass.
Poor. Food was average at best and service was poor. Many other options in Juneau that are of getter value.
Halibut with berry chutney was very nice.
Only in Alaska would this place survive due to lack of competiton. It took 30 minutes for water. It took an hour and a half for the whole dinner. The burger was not buffalo and it was burnt. Waitress constantly was getting lost and got the order wrong. They gave use buttlermilk biscuit as shortcakes, who knows what they were thinking. The service just sucks. It’s a tourist trap.Don’t waste your time.
Good and getting better. I have eaten at the Twisted Fish at least 10 times, and I will say that some times have been better than others when it comes to food quality and service. My boyfriend, who is from southern California and has impossibly high food standards compared to most Alaskans, always wants to eat at the Twisted Fish and won’t even walk in the door of their sister restaurant, The Hangar, because there is such a huge difference in food quality. The restaurant is often crowded and loud, but I’ve always found the service to be good. The waitstaff at the Twisted Fish is always very busy since its the most popular dockside restaurant during the busy tourist season, but they always seem to take drink orders and food orders quickly, although it usually takes forever to get a check or for them to process a credit card. If you can, make a reservation, otherwise don’t complain about not being seated immediatley. This place is packed. The food usually borders between pretty good and really delicious. The past few times I’ve been, it’s been really delicious. I think they’ve made some changes to their recipes between the 2012 and 2013 seasons, because everything seems very fine-tuned now. The fish is always perfectly cooked, the burgers are definitely not frozen patties, the sauces are consistently yummy. It’s just a really nice place to eat. Expensive, yes, but such is the market for decent food in Juneau. Can’t complain about the prices if you’re eating out in Southeast Alaska…
Uhhhhmmm, yea, we’ve been living in Juneau for almost 2 years now. I don’t know what some of these people are talking about. There are really no good restaurants in Juneau. You’re better off cooking at home. Twisted Fish is probably the closest you’re going to get to an all around good restaurant. The food is just as good as any other joint in town. If you think Juneau has some good restaurants, it’s probably because you don’t know any better. And as far as the price, EVERY restaurant here is over priced. We feel cheated wherever we go, even McDonalds. So, if have to urge you to give this place a shot, especially if you try a place like the Sandbar, or the Orr House.
Worst drinks in town. I have been to the Twisted Fish twice. I only had drinks during my first visit. They were absolutely disgusting. I returned for dinner, thinking that I had had a one time bad experience. My second experience was worse. I ordered the mini halibut burgers. There was barely any halibut anywhere to be found, just burnt breading. I ordered a Margarita which didn’t contain any Tequila. I ordered a second drink, one of their specialties. It was so gross I couldn’t drink it. This place must have the worst bartenders in the world. All of my dinner companions received mediocre food and disgusting drinks. Everything is overpriced, even by Alaska’s standards. I will never come here again.
