Wonderful. Four of us went. We ordered The Works for the group and it was very flavorful and we all really enjoyed it. We tried to eat it all, but ended up with some leftovers. Two had Ethiopian Lattes for dessert. Good service, they kept an eye on us from afar and were not intrusive. Definitely on the list to come back to.
Two enthusiastic thumbs up!. Judi and I checked it out last night based on rave reviews on this site. The reviews were well justified! We ordered the combo plate for two and selected dishes that provided a variety of flavors and textures. Food is plentiful and pleasurable, with cheerful prompt service. We will be back.
I love this little restaurant and I’ve been going there ever since it first opened. The food is DELICIOUS and the interior is quite pleasant. I definitely recommend it.
Authentic Ehtiopian Food. Good curry and bread, Ethiopian friends confirm it’s authentic!
A Great Restaurant with Gluten Free Options!. Four of us enjoyed lunch at Cafe Desta yesterday. I called ahead to check for gluten-free options and was pleased to learn that with a day’s notice the restaurant will prepare teff injera (stretchy flatbread) instead of the usual version, which contains wheat. There is a 75 cent charge – not a big deal, since the prices are so reasonable. Three of us ordered meat entrees, which were delicious – Alicha Doro (chicken with onions and turmeric) and Kaya Beg (lamb with onions and berbere sauce). They arrived with a bit of salad on the side. My son ordered the lunch special, which gave him his choice of three dishes. That was the best option, in my opinion, since I would have liked more veggies with my meal. Service was quick, friendly and helpful…we arrived at noon and were out by 12:40. We drank water, which was purified and had a touch of citrus – very refreshing. Sadly, we were too full to try the desserts. We’ll be back, though – it’s open Sundays and not far from Symphony and Arizona Theatre Company. We had a little trouble spotting the restaurant – it’s right on the corner of Stone and 18th Street (west side) and parking was available on the street. I consider this restaurant a real find!
WOW! Not only great Ethiopian food, but some of the best food I’ve ever had and reasonably priced. It is a must!
Spectacular!. Cafe Desta is another of Tucson’s great restaurants! It is a family run independent local place run by an Ethiopian man and his American wife – either or both of them are usually there. A lot of the decorations are her artwork. The food is beyond wonderful and very reasonably priced, especially their <$8 lunch special. Parking is easy and very convenient – you will love it!
