Great place. Attentive service. The cocktails are very good. Check out the dinner menu and the happy hour menu. The food is outstanding.
I always enjoy the food and atmosphere at the great restaurant. Interesting drink of the day and varying ethnic specials, Morroccan on our last visit. Thanks to Janos, the owner and a great staff.
Love this place but THEY ARE NOT OPEN FOR LUNCH anymore.
Even their non-alcoholic selection of drinks was good. Their was a range of types of food to choose from: albondigas soup, curry, steak? I had the catfish curry. It was tasty, but not overly impressive. My husband had the ribeye steak and it looked and tasted very good, but the brussel sprouts were grilled to a blackened potato chip.
October Second Saturday. We were planning on having street food (from the Planet Crepes truck) but stopped by Downtown Kitchen. At 7:30pm it was rather full. We did not have reservations but the hostess found us a nice table for two. Our server was Athena and she was responsive, friendly and truly professional. Ample staff is everywhere—water glasses were filled, utensils and plates arrived and disappeared like magic. We had:—My meal was a Papparadelle with Willcox Ham, fresh peas, garlic scapes, mushrooms and leeks moistened with chicken stock, olive oil, Parmigiano Reggiano, basil pesto. It was rather bland and uninspired for this James Beard Award winner. —My wife dined on Ras al Hanout Marinated Chicken with tomato jalapeo orzo, dates, pistachio and cumin honey which was delicious—For dessert we opted for the Lemon Custard Cake Blueberry Compote and whipped cream which was fabulous and a perfect ending to the meal. —The Solnia, Rioja, Spain, 2008 was nice but the Prosecco, Bisol, Valdobbiadene, Italy, NV was boringAfterwards we visited the Etherton Gallery for Tucson ROCKS and roamed around. We walked past the Sapphire Pink Party…. We’ll probably try this Janos restaurant again.
Good food. Decent service. Nice atmosphere, but not overly impressed. We had reservations, and weren’t seated for over 30 minutes. They offered us dessert, but were out of half of the items on the menu. For $20 a plate you expect a restaurant to run a little smoother.
Savory surprise. We honestly planned on going to HUB first, but did not have reservations, and they could not accommodate our party of 2. No worries, showed up to at Yano’s Downtown Kitchen at 7:10 on a Saturday and thankfully got a seat. The place was almost full and getting busier by the minute. As we were sat our heads were on a swivel taking in what seemed to be and industrial, comfortable feel with a modern edge. Open and spacious with every restaurant track playing at just the right volume so we could still enjoy our own company. Jules, our server, did a perfect job from every angle. Having spent 16 years in the industry, 3 of which opening and training staff myself i tend to be critical, yet cannot find one thing wrong with our service from every staff member who helped us. I chose the 3 course meal from Spain. We started with a flatbread topped with fresh tomato, cured meat, anchovie and endive. Light and flavorful, for not normally enjoying anchovies, we both loved this dish. For my entree, I chose the Paella with mussels, chicken and lobster. I chose correctly. Aromatic and savory, each bite complimented the last till my bowl was empty. My date enjoyed the stuffed trout with fried oyster off the normal dinner menu. Tender and sweet, with a little saltiness added from the oyster made her and her stomach smile. Dessert and coffee followed. Nothing worse than a great meal followed by sub-par luke warm coffee. Glad to say ours was hot and delicious! Dessert was a homemade churro with hot chocolate sauce. It was amazingly good! The churro hot, with cinnamon and sugar, i dipped mine in the hot chocolate sauce and savored every bite. It literally melted in your mouth. I cant wait to come back next month to enjoy the regular menu, and samples from Tokyo! From start to finish we enjoyed our evening. Thank you staff for the excellent service, from water pours, napkin folds and marking silver. Thank you cooks for your attention to detail. Big eats gives Downtown Kitchen and Cocktails and A+.
