Moira isn’t bad, but it wasn’t particularly good on the night I went. I’m reviewing it as an average sushi place in comparison to other sushi places I’ve been to. The atmosphere is good, it had a dimly lit dining room and sushi bar area, perfect for a date night. The service was attentive, but the sushi roll menu has just the name of a roll without any explanation as to what is in it, the server had to go to the chef to ask about what the content of each roll was. I had the Miso Soup for an appetizer and the broth was fantastic, probably the best I’ve ever had, unfortunately the cubes of tofu were still cold which kind of ruined it. I also had the calamari and it was very nice and fresh. The rolls were just ok, I had the Philly Roll and the Spicy Yellowtail Roll. The Philly had smoked salmon that was not very nice at all (had smoked salmon been stated on the menu, I wouldn’t have ordered it), but the Yellowtail Roll wasn’t bad.
Moira stands out as another sushi offering in downtown Phoenix that is in the bottom of an apartment building. Off the beaten path slightly from the Roosevelt Row area, it has a generous happy hour that I enjoy indulging in.The small restaurant cultivates a modern and stylish atmosphere, dimly lit and with colorful pops in terms of accents it has an ambiance that hints at Asian culture but in a very trendy way. The huge windows that look out on the street are wonderful for allowing natural light in during a happy hour sip and nosh session but also are beautiful at night to see the passersby. This place is perfect for a date or an after work gathering. The unagi sashimi is wonderful, along with the eel and cucumber roll. What most surprised me this last time was my first try of their chicken wings and I have to admit they are stellar. Crispy skin, honey sesame glaze, and perfectly moist and seasoned meat these were a hit with my dining partner extraordinaire and I. Moira is definitely worth of a visit if you happen to be downtown. instagram.com
We had wonderful food–sushi and service was wonderful and so were the drinks!!
Love love this place! Owner is beyond awesome too!
Terrible. The sushi is decent, unfortunately the service was terrible and there was not even a manager on site to resolve the situation at our table. What happened at our table should never happen, but it doesn’t take a veteran server to know how to handle the situation. Will never go here again!
Excellent. We went there at happy hour and that was a really great deal. Sushi was amazing, atmosphere was great and our waitress was most helpful.
Very enjoyable!. A great respite for the feet on First Fridays…I enjoyed the tempura shrimp and niku in grape leaves. The kareh raisu curry was delicious but the glazed orange was bland and a disappointment. I also had a peach coctail which was delicious…sadly I can’t remember its name.
