I love the Welcome Diner. It’s my favorite spot for late night eats in Phoenix (opens till 2am). It’s such a cool concept and they serve up some pretty good-sized portions of food. Welcome Diner operates out of a Valentine Diner (a mobile pop-up restaurant from the 40’s) and is located in the historic Garfield neighborhood (they have a second location in Tucson). They have both outdoor and limited indoor seating and serve up Southern-inspired American dishes made from scratch. You’ll find huge buttermilk biscuit sandwiches, burgers, po’ boy sandwiches, fried chicken and jambalaya on their menu along with a variety of delicious cocktails to choose from. In fact, Connor Mansager of the Welcome Diner was recently declared the 2017 Arizona Star Bartender at the Devour Phoenix Bartending Competition a couple weeks ago. I pulled a late nighter here with some buddies and we tore up a Big Jim (fried chicken, gravy, bacon and an egg on a biscuit), No Way Jose (a burger with jalapeno relish, smoked Gouda and chipotle ranch) and the Carol (braised pork and BBQ sauce on a biscuit). Another favorite of mine is the Peanut Butter burger. Our food definitely hit the spot after a fun night of boozing. Btw… share a side of fries with someone as they are pretty generous with their portions. I love the throwback ambiance of this place to old school diners of the past. My only knock is we had some smokers next to us as we ate our food on the patio. But overall a great experience as always and the staff is usually pretty friendly. foodartandculture.com
This nondescript joint bring your tastebuds to another place. Dense but moist biscuits, crunchy fried chicken, gravy that does not overpower but includes a touch of spice. Just a great bite. Brussels sprout side roasted perfectly- soft but keeps its texture, chat brings out the flavor, with a touch of seasoning. Homemade ginger beer is no joke. You better like ginger!
Love this place .its so cute and drinks are amazing . The food is so good and original . I love the Brussel sprouts and usually I don’t eat those. I will definitely keep coming back .
I am a soul food fanatic and love searching the valley for the best comfort food around. I have finally found the restaurant that fulfills all my soul food requirements. Welcome Diner is a wonderful restaurant that gives off good vibes and serves extraordinary food. I came here for the Big Jim which I had heard so many good things about. This beautifully made sandwich was one of the best tasting things I have ever experienced. Welcome Diner is located in downtown Phoenix and compliments the city vibe. The restaurant has a lovely old southern feeling to it. As you eat, it is as if you were in a little patch of the south. The layout is mainly outdoor and it has a historic diner setup. The staff is very helpful and always treat their customers with the utmost respect. No matter when you go, you will have an amazing experience.Good soul food is very rare to find in Arizona. In order to find a decent soul food restaurant, you need to do quite a bit of research. Welcome Diner is in the center of all of it, and is outstanding. No matter where you live, Welcome Diner is worth the trip. I love this restaurant and will be returning very shortly. Keep up the good Work!
Small hole in the wall place, but a absolute must stop by and have it!! Open late and the food just gets better!
Late Night Dining. If your hungry after a long evening, this is your place to hang out open from 5p to 2a, it has sandwiches, burgers, apps to your liking. Located just north of downtown, off of Roosevelt, it’s a 1940’s era diner, that ended up in a residential neighborhood. You can sit out I the patio area, plenty. Fo seating or one of the stools at the counter inside. I chose the counter inside to get the feel of the diners history. The food and service are very, casual and pleasant. Tuesday’s is all nigh happy hour, with $1 off drafts, went with the local Fourpeaks Kiltlifter, and ordered one of the biscuits, which there are several to chose from. Koko which is the families fried chicken, topped with arugula, tomato, and Aoli sauce that had a great spice to it, on a biscuit that was toasted. The chicken was tender, and had a great breading texture, not too heavy. If I’m ever hungry for a ,ate night meal, the Welcome Diner, is on my list.
Pretentious food served up with a side of douchebaggery. One has to be cool enough to eat on their patio. Disappointing since I live within walking distance.
