My Husband and I went on the Verde Canyon Railroad Excursion earlier that day and we were hungry i search of a new place to try. We stumbled along a sign that says Japanese restaurant which we ended up finally finding Ms. Masaki. Wow beautiful decor, great friendly welcome when we walked in. We ordered 2 sushi rolls. Prepared fresh from the sushi chef. What shocked and surprised us was that Diane and her staff were not Asian, but all they had been trained by Mr. Masaki himself before he sold this restaurant to them over 2 years ago. Diane brings the same great Japanese flavors as any amazing Japanese chef could. Our server Kelly, yet very relaxed was amazing and made both of us feel at home. I highly recommend that everyone try this place if you live or pass through Cottonwood!
Don’t waste your time or money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. My wife and I decided to try this place just a couple weeks ago. It was good and decided to go back. We ordered there special tea and tempura veggies. After about 30 min our tempura finally came out and it was ok. Another 30 min passed and our rolls came out. When we ordered them we asked if they have fish eggs, our server said no, even after she wrote them down we asked to please be sure they don’t have them. On one roll it was completely covered with them, the other roll had them inside. Our server kinda looked at them as though we did something wrong. She then took them in the back. There were other ladies who went to the back with her also. When the woman making the rolls came back she looked over at us gave us a dirty look and just rolled her eyes. She then re-entered them and placed the ticket on the sushi bar. Then this other lady came to our table to let us know they were being re made. At the same time the woman at the bar gave us a bad look again. At this point we said we would just like the check. The woman at the bar said that’s fine and seemed pleased to not correct the mistake. When we got our ticket I asked if the woman at the bar was the owner. The woman said yes and also said she was an owner. I told her that we did nothing wrong and felt we did so because of the bad looks we were getting. She said she was sorry. I told her that we would probably not be coming back because of how we were treated, her only response was she was sorry we felt that way. If she or the woman at the bar were true owners they would make everything right and want us to come back. Instead we spent 18 dollars for veggies and tea. These women don’t care about their business and because of this they should not receive the business either. Sorry this is a bit long but I don’t want people spending there hard earned money with a business who won’t appreciate you.
Unprofessional Owner & chief. Our first and last visit to this sushi restaurant was met with the sushi chief (who is also the owner) began to berate and call the one & only server stupid for asking a question for us. The server who was apologetic on his behalf was clearly upset. This took place only a few feet where we were seated. The restaurant is a no frills atmosphere & simple in nature with dirty walls. The food was presented in a timely manner & looked good. The portions were of a good size, but as we found out, mostly rice filling with little of the featured ingredients. We had the Mountain & Edogawa roll. Both were fair in taste, but super expensive…$16 & 17.50.People who reviewed this restaurant & have gone as far to state this is one of the best in Arizona have no clue what excellent sushi consists of. Over stuffing the rolls with rice & skimping on the fish, etc. is not excellent sushi. I also asked for a small dish of spicy mayo sauce & the server returned stating he doesn’t have it & if I wanted it, it would be extra. All sushi restaurans I’ve been to have this simple spicy sauce & have never charged for it!We cannot support this unprofessional treatment to the staff even if it was excellent, but it was not & fair at best. So far Hiro’s in Sedona is the best around, but I will keep you apprised if I find better than Hiro’s.Visited September 2011
Wonderful. I have eaten here three times and the food as well as the service is consistently outstanding.
