First visit here on a Thursday night. Made a 9:15pm reservation for 7. We were a big party coming in for a late dinner so I know we probably weren’t their favorite table from the get go but there were a few service aspects that could’ve been done better. But regarding the food first..,We ordered the zucchini fritters, hummus and saganaki for the table. Flaming saganaki is always a fun presentation. And it tasted delicious with the pita bread. The zucchini fritters were amazing–perfectly crispy and flavorful without being too greasy or salty. The hummus was good as well but standard. Drinks were good (Moscow mules, happy hour red wine, skinny acai lemonade cocktail) and came to the table in a timely manner. And for a large group our entrees came out timely too, and correct. I ordered the Tavern fries (smothered in feta and Dijon cream) which was an insanely large order but tasted great! And I had a bowl of the avgolemono soup (chicken and lemon soup) which was a great choice for a chill night. Creamy in texture, nice chunks of chicken and not overwhelmingly lemony. Now regarding service, I’m going to give our server the benefit of the doubt that she may be new to the industry. First, when someone at the table discreetly hands you their credit card anytime before the check is dropped (especially at the beginning of the meal), you kind of get the hint that he or she is trying to make sure someone else at the table doesn’t pay. You don’t blow the whistle by asking aloud in front do the whole table when should you run the credit card. We laughed about it later though. But what was frustrating is when our server last comes to the table, she drops off the check and mentions last call for booze because the bar was closing but failed to check on us for dessert orders before the kitchen closes. As a former server I understand most tables skip out on dessert but you should always ask. Besides, it’s a way to bring up your check total. When we spoke up that we were interested in dessert, I wish she made an effort to go back to the kitchen or manager and ask if there was anything they could offer for dessert. Instead, just said sorry, the kitchen is closed, thanked us for coming in and walked away. I think she could’ve handled it better. Would I come back? Service experience aside as it could’ve been a fluke, I would say yes to coming back. They have a wide range on the menu that I would like to try. Would I recommend this place to friends? Yes if you’re in the Flagstaff area, it’s a good spot for a quick, good meal or happy hour and drinks band they can accommodate large groups. instagram.com
Service was not available. Have been to Taverna a few times and like the food. Went yesterday and was seated in a booth, waited about 15 min before we decided to leave. Waiter never came. We would have been happy to just be acknowledged. Was it because of where we were seated, were they busy, or is this how service now is? I didn’t let myself be upset because I want to try again, I just hope it isn’t something to expect.
Excellent Service, Outstanding Food!. I can’t say enough good about this place! The food was INCREDIBLE – and I was hesitant to even go because I’m not a big fan of Greek food. I’m officially a convert. The drinks were amazing, the staff was great (Allie was our server), and the owner, Brian, stopped by the table personally to chat. What a wonderful meal and social time. I highly recommend both this restaurant and their other one, The Fields, which is in the same strip mall area and also has outstanding food. The bloody Mary’s are out of this world. If I could rate this 10 stars, I would! Can’t wait to go back. They are doing business right.
Graduation Night. We had reservations for 11, and we ended up with 12 in our group. Our daughter had just graduated from NAU, so we knew every restaurant would be crowded. We got there about 20 minutes early, and they were able to seat us within 10 minutes. The food was very good, everyone had something different, and not one of us had a problem, nor was anyone disappointed with their choice, The chocolate dessert was heavenly. The best part was the service, Samantha our server was exceptional! We kept her quite busy, as did some of the other large groups in the restaurant. She worked her butt off!
Dinners. Jus an awesome crew, always so welcoming. We enjoy our meals every time we come for a visit.
Open til 11?!. My girlfriend and I showed up at 10:20pm only to be told that they already had last call in the kitchen. There were at least 20 other customers in the restaurant at the time. Pretty disappointing to see a restaurant have that number of customers on a Saturday night but close down the kitchen so everybody can get home earlier than expected.
Recommended by the staff at Marriott and within walking distance. Excellent hummus appy followed by entres of chicken souvlaki and New York steak. Great meal. Steak was perfect medium rare and veggies were still crisp and flavourful. Large portions and attentive service. Prices were just right and to top it off the owner offered to drive us back to the hotel. Doesn’t get any better. A real gem of a place with great food and service. Many thanks. Ross and Lorna.
