Follow-up to review posted 12/21/14. I just wanted to say that I wrote the owner of JC’s a letter and explained exactly what I outlined in my review on 12/21/14. I had hoped for a professional response saying how sorry they were for the meal and that they would work on improving their service and food. I received NOTHING. Not an apology, not an acknowledgement, not a word. I wasn’t looking for a free meal here because I would have to wear an oxygen mask to sit in the restaurant again and I wasn’t prepared for that.. What I had HOPED for is a business owner who cared about their public perception and wanted to become a positive business model for the town of Gilbert. Obviously that is not the case here. I was really hoping for a professional response but I got what I got was the same as the night we had dinner there……disappointment, sub-quality customer care and another business that may be doomed for failure. What a disappointment all the way around.21 Dec, 2014We really hoped for more!. I wanted to just write JC’s and tell them about our experience, however, I couldn’t find the website to do that. So, for now I will write my review here. We visited Jc’s on 12/20/14 at about 6:00 p.m. The first thing we noticed was the haze in the air from the grills, obviously a huge problem with the ventilation system. However, we really wanted a steak so we pushed forward. The Industrial Dcor was nice but a little too minimal. The hostess was very pleasant, we were seated quickly and other than our awesome server that’s where the good stuff ended. First, we received our water which was tap water and seriously needed a lemon in it. It was NOT good. Secondly, it took a while to get the bread, now mind there were nine of us but we got 8 small rolls in two napkins and no butter. We had to ask for it AND sufficient bread for all of us at the table. My husband ordered the 12 oz NY Strip steak $25.99, I ordered the 14 oz Gilbert cut Prime Rib $24.99 (prices approx.). We’ll start there. Our salads came, plated very nice and crisp and cold. I ordered the Bleu Cheese dressing. This was interesting because the little bits that you expect to be Bleu Cheese, were curds like cottage cheese. In fact, that’s what it tasted like. My husband’s NY Strip was small, I would question the 12 oz. and my husband said it had virtually no seasoning. Almost every bite had gristle in it. My husband thinks it’s a crime to put steak sauce on a good steak — he asked our server for steak sauce. He ordered mashed potatoes and it came with a baked potato, he didn’t want to send it back and the potato was good but the vegetable side dish was small. My Prime Rib was, interesting. Again, I would question the 14 oz. (that’s just shy of a pound right?). It was probably 1/3 of an inch on one end and then was sliced down to the thickness of a slice of Roast Beef lunch meat on the other end. I was pretty disappointed but hungry. The flavor was good although for this price the amount of gristle and fat was more than you would expect. The house Cabernet was good (Alias) and it had a hint of oak in the flavor. So my overall review would be that you can get comparable quality (actually probably better) at Outback or Texas Roadhouse at a lower price with better ambiance, cleaner air and real Bleu Cheese. Jc’s was a huge ‘Fail’.
Disappointed. Stopped in at JC’s with friends to check it out and had drinks and appetizers. The interior is nicely decorated, everyone was very friendly but the rest of the visit was disappointing. Water came out quickly but it took them at least 20 minutes to bring out our beers. We were there at 4 and there was only one other table occupied. The prices on the appetizers were high but they had $2 off happy hour special, we ordered calamari, the triple joint wings and soup. Again, it took forever for them to bring out our food. If they were busy I would expect a bit of a longer wait, but it was empty at 4 pm. The food was plated beautifully but the calamari was cold and the wings had hot and cold spots. The soup was smaller than a cup from other places and usually soup is super hot, this was lukewarm. Flavoring was so so. Portion sizes were smaller than what you would expect, The calamari was barely enough for one person so sharing is hard to do. I peaked at the dinner prices and for $20-30 a plate I would be afraid those portions sizes are doll size. I’ve read other reviews all having the same issues so I hope JC you are reading all of these and will correct the issues.
Definitely worth trying!. After reading the reviews on line, I almost didn’t go due to all of the comments about the smoke. Luckily, I didn’t let that deter me. There was no sign of smoke or haze anywhere. We made a reservation, but it was not needed as there was no wait. Nice to know that reservations are an option though. The staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was pretty cool. There is an outside patio, a lounge type area with a fireplace, a bar, and then the main dining room. I am glad we got a booth as the tables and chairs were small scale. I tried out a chair, and it was not comfortable at all. I felt like I was at the kid’s table, and I am not a big person. The booths were cozy and comfortable though. Now for the food. The portions seemed small, but my boyfriend and I always share a meal, and we were satisfied when we left. The vegetables were perfect for me…crunchy, not mushy. The steak fries were nicely seasoned. As for the steak, it was cooked to perfection! They somehow managed to get it almost crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. It just could have used a bit more flavor. They offer a local steak sauce that was delicious, but I would prefer more seasoning on the steak itself. The prices were a bit high compared to places we usually frequent, but in all fairness, we don’t usually go to steak houses, so I don’t know how the prices compare to others. We will definitely go again. We are looking forward to trying out the bar for a drink and an appetizer, and the patio when the weather warms up. Best of luck to the owners with their new endeavor!
Amazing. We have visited this restaurant now 3 times. For myself and my husband our experience was amazing. From the decor to the kind staff to amazing ribeye’s. We always order our steaks with extra seasoning and the food was absolutely amazing much better than an Outback. I read some complaining about the wait for foo…we didn’t have any problem with a wait but what I will say is give them a break people they are brand new. Give them a few months to work out the kinks. I would say if you haven’t been go the food is amazing!!
Great ribeye. Just finished rib eye at jc’s it was awesome had some rice with it and a bake patato my wife had the ceaser salad she loved it local hand cut meat makes me feel good as well
Swing and a miss. It’s not that the food didn’t taste good but waiting for over an hour to get our food doesn’t make up for it. Not to mention, our waiter was not nice and the food was not hot when it was brought to the table. Those three things combined don’t equal a second visit. It’s very expensive and the food portions are that of a swanky, culinary type Scottsdale restaurant. If you don’t order an appetizer and a salad with your meal, you will leave hungry after paying nearly $100. And the place is full of smoke, plan on smelling like you’ve been sitting around a camp fire all night when you leave. It’s awful! The restaurant would have to buy our meal for my family and I to return.
Got to restaurant at 6:30, got seated within 5 minutes. Our food was brought to our table at 8:00. I had stepped out to take a phone call & when I got back, the food was on the table & my mouth literally dropped open when I saw my $23 appetizer sized mahi-mahi. There is not a kids menu so plan on spending $13 for a burger if you bring your child. It was an all over disappointing evening. I give this restaurant 6 months unless they make some changes. Oh and the restaurant is full of smoke. I feel bad for anyone who might have asthma – you won’t be able to breathe!
