My wife and I decided to check out downtown Gilbert for lunch after our morning hike today. We happened upon the So Cal Fish Taco Company. I am extremely happy that we did. The restaurant has a great area in the back for outdoor seating. We both decided on fish tacos…Obvi. I had the Loco (shellfish) and shark, while my wife had mahi and shark. All of them were stellar. The accompanying salsa was cool and refreshing while the beans and rice were perfect and tender. I really appreciate the craft beer menu. There are many options that sound like a good pairing with fish. I decided on the blood orange amber from The Dude Brewing. It was fantastic. My only negative is that everything was served in and on plastic…. the plates, flatware, glasses, everything. The extremely high quality of food and beer deserve to be served properly. However, I look forward to my next visit to this restaurant.
We really like the tacos especially during happy hour (prior to 6pm) they are a $1.50 a piece and well worth it. The clam chowder is excellent – hearty and robust with clams. Suggest you visit during the week; the weekends are chaos and this small venue simply can’t accommodate large parties without a ridiculous wait. Furthermore,the small wait staff area can be quite congested and the boss is may become quite unpleasant – first hand experience. Cooler heads prevail during the week and the service is usually very good.
