No more…. I have been to The Gilbert House over a dozen times, and I can honestly say that my last visit is the last time they will see me. The criticisms one may read online — flighty staff, rude owner, customer favoritism, order blunders, long waits — are all sadly true. Without getting into too many details, the hostess claiming to be the owner made us feel publically degraded in front of the restaurant (apparently having coffee while waiting for your entire dining party to arrive was not an option), and then proceeded to helicopter around our table throughout the entire meal. Inside seating was not offered — even though tables were still vacant — so we sat outside, with rampant bugs and cold wind, and waited forty minutes for just eggs and toast. I cannot believe I actually spent money to feel so unwelcome somewhere, but it will never happen again. The food, pricing, and ambiance are nothing to write home about, and you can pick just about any other surrounding restaurant that has longer hours and a restroom that’s not across the parking lot. Furthermore, there are so many restaurants flooding Downtown that Gilbert House can keep their dwindling customer exclusivity – people can choose any number of hipper restaurants where they will be appreciated.
