Try it out!. Have eaten Ethiopian food way back in college, and when I heard my coworker talking about his great experience at Tina’s, I decided to go for dinner. Well, I stopped in tonight and had AMAZING experience! as well. I am not sure why a couple people said the place looks weird, but to me, it is well decorated and nice atmosphere to hang out and have a nice cozy place to sit down and eat. it was clean and comfortable. The staff is wonderful, (i believe he sister?) she greeted us nicely and took good care of us. The food was delicious, we loved it all. When we were about to leave, here Tina came out , she asked us how we liked the food, she actually sat near by us and chatted more. She actually has a funny character which made us laugh and enjoy the moments. we like her; very friendly and sweet. we will definitely go back soon.
Delicious!. We had a Groupon for Tina’s and finally got a few moments to use it. Wow! So glad we went. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt like we were eating at the home of a long-time friend. Tina welcomed us and made us feel right at home. Since we hadn’t eaten here before, variety and experimenting were the goals. We had the House Watt Combo Platter, Beef Tibbs, and the House Salad. We browsed the books about Ethiopa Tina has on the tables while we enjoyed the fragrance of the items we had ordered being cooked. As Tina had explained to us, the salad came along with the other dinner items. Perfect! The contrast of the fresh salad flavors with the different kinds of watt was wonderful! We were full before the platter was empty, but Tina explained that we wouldn’t want to miss the flavor of the enjera that was under the watts and salad. She was so right. We found room for two more yummy bites and became acquainted with yet one more flavor that we loved. We will go back again and I’m guessing it won’t be too long. Another visit to our new friend’s dining table is definitely in order! Thanks for treating us like family, Tina.
The best Ethiopian Food in AZ!. I absolutely enjoyed this place! I have been at other restaurant in Tempe, but I highly recommended Tina’s. The owner is very sweet and adorable, the place was packed and had to wait for a while but it was worth the wait!! It was the best food I have had in a while. the salad was AWESOME! it came with pretty much everything in the menu. The bathroom super clean and fresh. I loved the decor on the wall and enjoyed the Ethiopian dancing on tv. We had a great time and will definitely go back! If you plan to take you young one, I advise take a high chair or something for your little one.
Went today to Tina’s and it was great. It’s a little hard to find in a strip mall but the food was very good and sooo inexpensive. We had the single combo platter. $12.99. It is meant for 2 people but it was more than enough for two of us. The owner Tina was very friendly and sweet. Taking the time to talk to us Canadians and feeding us very well. We will definitely be back soon. (Rick from Winnipeg)
The food was amazing! The portion sizes were huge. Tina, the owner was super friendly and made us Canadians feel at home! Overall, I loved it!
Watt Watt! Try it! You’ll like it!. Mmmmm! Delish! I can’t explain what the flavors are like since the spices are unique, but the look of the plates are closest to Indian presentation – the enjera is more of a very mild sourdough and soft and thick rather than the thinness of naan and the flavors are totally different, but it is primarily vegetarian and the meat dishes are small pieces of meat in sauce. We had Beef Watt, Beef Tibbs and Potato Watt. I want to try the Chicken Watt and Spinach Watt next time. Can I get a Watt Watt? :)The salad was unlike any I’ve ever had. It was GREAT! Very bright – lemony, maybe? The Beef Watt and Salad went well together – hot and cold! The Ethiopian Hot Tea was also awesome! Again, I can’t say how it tastes as it’s unique! But try it, you’ll like it! Two out of three of our party liked everything, but the third person was 12, so pizza is more his bag. Tina is awesome! Open, friendly, caring and a great cook! She was very welcoming and concerned about my boy liking her food and bringing us more when my husband loved it and worrying about what she could bring my boy to have something for him to eat, but I told her not to worry about it – he got to try it and he will come back to try something else. We fed him pizza later. :)I think the place has a great atmosphere – Ethiopian Posters, a TV playing Ethiopian Dance and Song video, Ethiopian books on my table – one written in Ethiopian and a guide to Ethiopia written in English. Very cool. It’s a small, intimate space with booth seating and a very cute corner with comfy looking seats. We chatted with the couple next to us.It is a quirky place in that there is no silverware (you use the bread) and no napkins and she was out of chicken, but that all just combines to make it a fun, unique experience. 🙂 Go in with a chillax, laid back attitude and you will have a rockin time, learn something and eat some great food! 🙂
