Ordered the halibut and I seemed like they took it out of the freezer and microwaved it. Cute restaurant but won’t go back due to food quality and inexperienced service.
The Rogue Tomato recently opened in the shuttered Shangri-La Chinese Restaurant spot in Glendale. This is a very unusual restaurant that offers American Food, Southwestern style food, pizza, burgers, wine on tap and more. The menu varies and goes from gastro-pub up to Ribeye Steaks. The decor is dark but modern and woody with a bricked wall and large black boards with all kinds of interesting quotes. They also offer a small patio. They start you off with water and embellishments of cucumber, jalapeo and lemon and a basket of hot rosemary dinner rolls with oil and vinegar. We both started with cups of soup. I had the roasted red bell pepper bisque made with Boursin Cheese. It was rich and tasty. My husband had the White Bean Kale with Andouille. His soup ran a little salty and was missing the beans. For dinner I had the Feta Crusted Halibut. My fish was slightly over cooked. I thought the bean ragout was tasty. This restaurant just opened this week and I think they still are tweaking the menu and I know our server is still learning the food. I will try them again in a few weeks and hope to upgrade them because the menu is very unique and interesting.UPDATE 2-22-16Did a revisit for lunch. I had the salmon sliders and they were delicious and sort of fancy with arugula, cucumber and lemon aioli. My husband had the Rogue Burger. It was also flavorful very detailed and delicious but slightly over cooked. It seemed like they improved from my last visit. (I originally rated this restaurant as 3.0) Update 2-5-17Did a revisit and tried the Black Bean Burger and tried the Lemon Cheese Cake. Black bean burger was ok but lacked any texture. Cheese Cake was not for me… I have to lower the stars back to three.
