Average Mexican food, nothing special. Chips were bland but the two salsas were good. One was mild and fresh with cilantro and onion. The other was hotter and smoky, but not super Mexican hot. I ordered the regular Margarita which was on special. Tasted like premixed syrup. I then ordered a Sangria which wasn’t fresh tasting. The Pollo Locco burro was sounded good with jalapeo cream cheese and melted cheddar cheese but turned out to be dry and the chicken was shredded but was still tough in texture. Neighbor table ordered chili roleno which was burned and tasted unfresh (manager claimed was freshly made). I wouldn’t come back.
Don Ruben’s is an extremely good Mexican restaurant with friendly and very fast service. Even late on a Wednesday evening the place is jammed wall to wall. But this popularity hasn’t made them complacent as the food is terrific – particularly the shrimp enchilada and the chile relleno. The beef fajitas were delicious but there could have been more actual beef.Overall the portions are good and prices fairly average. Not bad for very good food.
Best mexican food in Arizona! The staff is outstandingly friendly, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is relaxing and positive. I reccomend the Poco Pollo if you are a chicken fan! You can’t go wrong with the tamales or the shredded beef tacos! The fish tacos are outstanding as well. They serve complimentary chips and salsa before your meal. The hot sauce and the salsa are unique and tasty! I highly reccomend having a meal here. Staff are extremely accommodating for larger parties as well. If you go for dinner, get there early; the reetaurant gets busy quickly most every night!

Great Mexican. In an area overflowing with Mexican restaurants, Don Ruben’s stands well above the pack.Be sure to try out their cheese crisp, with an emphasis on crisp. They also have great margarita specials.
